SUMMARY:Gallery Talk: Feline Felicity as Early American Modernism
DESCRIPTION:In the early 20th century\, as increasingly tall buildings introduced new perspectives onto the world\, photographers sought ways to capture this way of seeing. Many of Charles Sheeler’s compositions for his celebrated drawings and paintings began as photographs and were indebted to the contemporaneous technological advancements in architecture and photography. Join curator Mitra Abbaspour for a conversation about the avant-garde underpinnings of Sheeler’s delightfully endearing drawing of a cat lying on a chair basking in sunlight. \nThis talk is offered in conjunction with the special exhibition Sketch\, Shade\, Smudge: Drawing from Gray to Black\, on view from September 12\, 2025 to January 18\, 2026. \nSketch\, Shade\, Smudge: Drawing from Gray to Black celebrates the act of drawing using familiar tools—charcoal\, chalk\, crayon\, and graphite. Each type of material has distinctive properties: charcoal can be intensely rich and velvety\, or delicately gray and suggestive\, while graphite is slippery\, shiny\, and easy to erase. Crayon is deeply black and waxy\, whereas chalk can be crumbly and diffuse. The creative manipulations of these media—smudging\, scraping\, and erasing—make them versatile tools for adding intensity\, depth\, precision\, and expression to an artist’s vision. \nLed by:\nMitra Abbaspour\, Houghton Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art \nPlease check in with museum staff at the Visitor Services desk in the Calderwood Courtyard to request to join the gallery talk. Space is limited\, and talks are available on a first-come\, first-served basis; no registration is required. \n  Save

SUMMARY:Exhibition Tour: Edna Andrade: Imagination Is Never Static
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an in-depth tour of our special exhibition Edna Andrade: Imagination Is Never Static (August 30\, 2025–January 4\, 2026)\, led by Madeline Murphy Turner\, co-curator of the exhibition. \nEdna Andrade: Imagination Is Never Static offers a new look at the practice of acclaimed artist and educator Edna Andrade (1917–2008). Andrade is best known for her geometric compositions\, which were inspired by her interest in studying structures in nature\, architecture\, astronomy\, mathematics\, and art history\, and she carried this same set of wide-ranging inspirations and inquiry to her teaching. The exhibition emphasizes the central role of drawing as well as interdisciplinary exploration in her art and in modernist movements of the 20th century. Channeling Andrade’s own multifaceted approach to art and design\, Imagination Is Never Static explores the way that she used drawing as a process of experimentation. \nPlease check in with museum staff at the Visitor Services desk in the Calderwood Courtyard to request to join the tour. Space is limited\, and talks are available on a first-come\, first-served basis; no registration is required. \n  Save

SUMMARY:Anthony Tarsitano Selected Works 2025-2026
DESCRIPTION:As beautiful as the world is\, it ain’t always pretty. New York based artist\, Anthony Tarsitano\, feels that perhaps this statement characterizes his upcoming premiere solo show at the Atlantic Gallery. \nSelected Works on Paper 2025-2026 is his perspective of the world\, revealed through a series of varied\, at times random\, subjects. Anthony\, also a filmmaker\, noted\, “Creating the pieces for this exhibit felt much like exploring the inner\, interpersonal\, and societal perspectives of a character in one of my films”. Figurative images are used to symbolically convey his point of view. The medium of Sumi ink on paper presents a simplified black and white palette\, producing blunt graphic imagery in an almost Rorschach-like form of communication. \nSince 2017 Anthony has exhibited in group shows in NYC at the Plaxall Gallery\, The Factory and Atlantic Gallery. Anthony is also a member of the Sumi-e Society of America and his work is currently exhibited in the 2025-26 Annual Show. Prior\, he received his BFA in Painting from CW Post\, showing his earlier paintings from New York to group shows in Los Angeles. Anthony continually experimented with new mediums; creating sound installations at BACA in NYC\, 500X Gallery in Dallas\, and in SoNo Connecticut\, to name a few. His creative path also led to filmmaking; writing\, directing and producing award-winning films with premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival\, Academy-qualifying festivals\, and on Paramount Showtime. \n  Save

SUMMARY:Rob Pruitt’s Flea Market
DESCRIPTION:NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale brings Rob Pruitt’s Flea Market back to Fort Lauderdale for its encore on Sunday\, April 26. The internationally renowned contemporary artist has been staging his nomadic flea markets around the world since 1999\, in locations from New York to London’s Tate Gallery and at NSU Art Museum in 2021. Pruitt is inviting local artists to sell their art and wares during the one-day happening\, which will be held at NSU Art Museum (One East Las Olas Blvd.\, Fort Lauderdale\, FL). \nTaking the form of a traditional open-air bazaar\, Rob Pruitt’s Flea Market is an opportunity to meet artists and take home an original artwork in a relaxed atmosphere. By highlighting bartering and haggling as both economic and performative\, and featuring a diverse array of goods from artwork to housewares\, Pruitt’s Flea Market blurs the line between art and commerce. \nFree to the Public \n  Save

DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the abstract paintings of Michelle Armas and Helen Frankenthaler\, wander through different approaches and techniques using watercolor painting and inks\, creating a colorful\, layered design. Activate play\, wonder\, and noticing through the intentional experimentation and exploration of working in watercolor. Creativity Exploration adult workshops promote the benefits of material exploration and the mind-to-body experience. “Research suggests that experiencing art and creativity\, even for a few minutes a day\, has tangible effects on our mental and physical health” (New York Times). In addition to producing a sense of well-being\, sessions expand participants’ perceptions of forms\, while increasing brain connectivity through visual and cognitive stimulation. The workshop is led by educator Lark Keeler\, a specialist in mindfulness education. Extend your sense of well-being after the class by visiting our galleries and the newly redesigned Huizenga Park\, located directly across Las Olas Blvd. Preregistration Required. Space is Limited. SUMMARY:Future Fair 2026
DESCRIPTION:The CAMP Gallery is pleased to announce our return to Future Fair in NYC this coming May 13-16 at booth U4. This year we’ll be featuring the works of Rosana Machado Rodriguez\, Michael Sylvan Robinson\, Deborah Simon\, and Silvana Soriano\, exploring the connections of fragility\, both in material and  subject. \nOur 2026 booth will explore connections of fragility\, both in material and subject. Navigating this present often leaves one feeling exposed and fragile. The artworks in the booth will highlight the inherent beauty in the fragile\, the vulnerability that makes us both human and compassionate and allows for growth\, but from the internal and the environment around. Rosana Machado Rodriguez presents the viewer with small vignettes highlighting individual isolation blanketing the work in protective stitches expressing care. Her works look inward towards one’s ability to both cocoon and resolve. Michael Sylvan Robinson through intricate stitches and embellishment dresses the works in strength of commitment\, stitching in resilience. Making the fiber works a tome of meaning\, each garment-like work becomes armor against the chaos of the present. Deborah Simon looks towards the physical internal of her subjects both warning of their fragility but also highlighting the exquisite patterns and order of a body. Her work draws one in\, exploring the paths of veins and arteries that direct one’s gaze through the external and find place in the internal. Silvana Soriano collages moments of inspiration and universals from different films transforming script and scene into complex and layered tableaux of resilience\, both vulnerable and unstoppable. All the artists\, combined\, invite the viewer to engage and relate to the works through not only the surface of the works\, but what reaction each viewer brings to the work. \n  Save
