Malcomson will be presenting his Signs Series and his Puerto Rico watercolors.Virginia Bradley (www.virginiabradley.com) is an abstract painter whose work is based in alchemy and the transformation of materials. Her latest series Corallium was inspired by the rejuvenation of the coral reefs in the Playa Santa Bay in southwest Puerto Rico where Virginia has a winter studio. As recently as 15 years ago\, the reefs were almost completely decimated due to pollution and boat traffic. In 2011\, the Obama administration undertook an extensive federal project to bring back the coral reefs. Today they are thriving! \nCoral reefs are some of the most diverse and essential ecosystems on Earth. Besides supporting more species per unit area than any other marine environment\, they also form a barrier that protects coastal land and communities. \nSwimming and snorkeling among the beautiful coral reefs have embedded the images of the underwater world in Virginia’s visual vocabulary. Those images re-emerge in her painting process.  \nExperimentation with oil paint\, sea water\, alcohol and other painting mediums in the 95-degree sun create a watery environment in which the paintings form. Heat from the sun acts as a catalyst in coalescing the materials into new images. Physical intervention – like pouring layers of paint onto the canvas\, sanding\, drawing\, adding to & subtracting from the painting surface – is key to the creation of the Corallium Series. Transparent film\, canvas and wood panels serve as the foundation of these works. And built on them\, materials and interactions mirror nature’s own inventive process. All of life has been formed – and transformed – by the water\, elements and powerful forces of the sea. This perpetual churning materials both creates the infinite variety of life on earth – and sustains it. \nChris Malcomson (www.chrismalcomson.com) is an established British painter who is based in the US. He has exhibited his work internationally and is included in many public and private collections. Malcolmson is strongly influenced by Jungian and Transpersonal psychology\, the poet Rumi\, and icons\, which are reflected in his artistic studies of inner landscapes. Each of his paintings showcases spatial balance and harmony\, as well as layered colors and pure geometric forms that immerse the viewer in a rich visual realm. Chris ultimately seeks to remind us of the mythological resonance present in our daily lives\, and of the psychological and cultural depth that lies beyond what we typically perceive. \nChris’s painting now takes on three forms: “I always carry a small notebook\, which I use to catch the Muse. It is a place to jot poems\, ideas and drawings to which I might add watercolors.\nThe second are small more formal watercolors\, these are pleasing to do in Puerto Rico as they dry so quickly. Lastly are larger abstracts on canvas which go up to about five-foot square.\nFor many of these I have used a fixed form\, which allows concentration on colour. Currently I am developing the Signs Series – paintings which consider the resonance of symbols which immerses the viewer in rich visual worlds”.  \n  Save

This annual celebration of creativity and innovation in games explores many of the same themes on display in the new exhibition Musical Thinking: New Video Art and Sonic Strategies. The exhibition explores the powerful resonances between recent video art and popular music. Like the works of video art highlighted in the galleries\, video games employ the same toolkit to evoke emotional responses and communicate the game’s story\, values\, and goals. Music can act as a building block for game worlds and a mechanic for navigating those worlds through rhythm and repetition. SUMMARY:HOMING INSTINCT:  A Film Installation by  Lydia Dean Pilcher
DESCRIPTION:(Woodstock\, NY) – The Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild is pleased to present Homing Instinct\, written & directed by Lydia Dean Pilcher on view September 27 – October 1\, 2023\, 10am – 6pm in conjunction with the Woodstock Film Festival at the Kleinert/James Center for the Arts\, 36 Tinker Street\, Woodstock\, NY. Homing Instinct is 26 minutes playing on a continuous loop every half hour. A reception for the artist will be held on Friday\, September 29\, 4 – 6pm. \nAn immersive cinematic installation\, Homing Instinct is based on the story by Dani McClain published in the anthology\, Octavia’s Brood: Science Fiction Stories from Social Justice Movements. The exhibition is supported by a Silver Sun Foundation residency. \nHoming Instinct evokes a world of shifting layers\, juxtaposing neorealism with the vast metaphysical sweep of nature. The audience is invited into a poetic and powerful aesthetic experience to imagine an interconnectedness as a species of nature in our changing world. \nThe story is set in the near future in a desperate moment of rising sea level. Two friends face a federal executive order to evacuate New York City and relocate within 30 days. The metaphorical question arises\, “Are you a fish or a bird?” Raven\, a psychologist studying the roots of extremism\, and Paloma\, a marine biologist at the Coney Island Aquarium\, encounter a time traveler in different ways. Existential questions around government authority and the individual are explored using the language of dance to reimagine our relationship with nature.The starring roles are played by Barrett Doss (Station 19\, Grey’s Anatomy) and Kineta Kunutu (The Blacklist\, Citadel)\, alongside a cast of accomplished talent. A steel sculpture\, “Queen Coils\,” by the artist’s brother\, sculptor/welder Jay Bradley Pilcher\, is featured in Homing Instinct\, as a thematic symbol of the creative spirit of human change and nature. “Queen Coils” will be on display in the exhibition. \n  Save

Miami\,) is pleased to announce our first Gallery Exhibition Opening of 2024: Quedate Conmigo/Stay with Me\, by artist Maru Ulivi. \nPlease join us for the third Thursday of the month for our gallery event. Maru Ulivi is an experimental textile artist and photographer who will be presenting a wide range of her works\, curated by Karina Maddonni. The evening will bring the viewer on a journey through the works\, the palette all leading towards a notion of both self discovery and growth\, where the artworks mirror the pathways towards an enlightened being. Inspired by the integration of nature into art\, this series seeks to question what both surrounds us and that can suffocate us or trap us under a deceptively protective appearance. The combination of malleable and organic materials\, along with plastics and metals; refer to the imposed and self-imposed labels that condition our nature. DESCRIPTION:The Contemporary Art Modern Project is ready to welcome April with it’s first Solo Exhibition of the year\, running from April 11–May 10\, 2025. The gallery will be hosting an opening reception on April 11\, 2025\, in our North Miami gallery 6–9 PM. \nJulie Peppito Chooses Hope offers a roadmap for navigating chaos through layered compositions of fiber\, paint\, and found objects. Exploring the tension between expectation and reality\, Peppito transforms everyday materials into intricate works that embrace movement\, ambiguity\, and growth. The exhibition invites viewers to step beyond uncertainty and into possibility—where hope is both a choice and an ever-expanding horizon. \n  \nABOUT OUR EXHIBITING ARTIST: JULIE PEPPITO (b. 1970\, American)\nJulie Peppito combines multiple materials to create creature-like sculptures\, layered tapestries\, large installations\, collages\, and playground art. The hybrid forms are about connection\, waste and fantasy.Peppito holds an MFA with a concentration in sculpture from Alfred University in Alfred\, NY (2004) and she received her BFA from The Cooper Union in New York\, NY (1992). Peppito’s work has been the subject of 10 solo exhibitions.
