SUMMARY:4th Friday Art Shows and Opening Reception @ Art Works!
DESCRIPTION:At last\, Spring—and we are regenerating at Art Works with our annual recycle art show\, RECYCLE ME. Inge Strack and Danny Trent continue their abstract art exhibit that fills the gallery with color and happy perceptions. Two new solo shows open: Perry Matthew\, An Uncolored Point of View\, and James Sheehan\, The Art of Nature. \nJoin us on March 26th\, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. for the opening reception. Meet the artists. There will be live music. To be safe and follow COVID19 mandates\, we are limiting the number of guests to ten for each exhibit/gallery. Register to attend through our website. \nThe exhibits continue through April 17\, 2021. This event is free and open to the public. Parking is free. \nThe Things We Say When We Break the Line\nby Inge Strack and Danny Trent \nInge Strack is a German born\, full-time painter living and working in Richmond\, Virginia. Her abstract paintings consist of bold colors and a deep sense of emotion. She often paints with a limited palette\, focusing on brushstrokes\, texture\, and form to find a balance. She is drawn to the drama and the pain connecting humanity and she strives to create beauty out of the most difficult circumstances. Her work combines her European past and her American present. Her paintings are upbeat and symbolize the strength and positive attitude that are part of the American spirit and therefore part of her newfound life in the United States. Her passion for bold colors comes from a group of artists called “The Blue Rider” of the 1920s\, especially Franz Marc; other influences are American artists Mark Rothko and Wolf Kahn. \nDanny Trent is an abstract painter. He uses the basic elements of painting: line\, color\, texture\, form\, and space in creating his painting.\nHe says that painting is an intuitive approach that allows for him to be open for unexpected moments of seeing something that was not intended and expanding and incorporating this discovery into the painting. \nAn Uncolored Point of View by Perry Matthews \nAn Uncolored Point of View explores the myriad features of manipulated black and white photography. The focus conveys boldness as well as subtlety. Viewers can view\, compare\, and develop their own interpretations. Perry first began experimenting with a point and shoot digital camera 10 years ago. Her photographic journey has encompassed nature\, objects\, and architecture. Her passion resides in abstractions and how everyday objects and architectural details can be transformed into intriguing\, illuminative works of art. The exhibit will be in the Corner Gallery \nThe Art of Nature by James Sheehan \nJames Sheehan uses natural woods to create either abstract or portrait wall art. The various grains\, patterns\, and colors of wood provides James with “brush strokes” provided by nature. He has worked with laminates and wood veneers for 40 years in the kitchen cabinet business. Now he uses that knowledge and skills to create art. \nThe exhibit will be in the Skylight Gallery. \nRECYCLE ME ALL MEDIA SHOW \nThis exhibit is a focal point of all Art Works’ openings. It is a juried show with cash prizes for 1st\, 2nd and 3rd place. The show is open to all artists and all mediums. The theme for this month is recycled art. Call for entries is March 1\, 2021 – March 17\, 2021. Submit your entries through our online form. Check our website for details on submitting your artwork: https://artworksrva.com/artist-resources/call-for-entries/ \n  Save

In partnership with independent mixologists\, crafters\, artists\, and experts in a variety of fields\, Wind Down Wednesday offers an optimistic approach to the middle of the week. \n\n\n\n\n\nFirst ladies are often expected to be role models\, hostesses and celebrities. SUMMARY:Virtual Lecture: Nature’s Best Hope
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, March 23rd\, at 5 p.m. Douglas Tallamy\, Professor of Entomology at University of Delaware\, will give a virtual lecture. Dr. Douglas Tallamy will give a virtual lecture titled “Nature’s Best Hope”\, which is the title of his best-selling book about a new approach to conservation which starts in your backyard. Homeowners everywhere can turn their yards into conservation corridors that provide wildlife habitats. Even more important\, it’s practical\, effective\, and easy—you will walk away with specific suggestions you can incorporate into your own yard. \nThis event is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Birds of the Northeast: Gulls to Great Auks. Learn more about the exhibition here. \nPresented in partnership with the Department of Biology. The Pequot Library\, Southport\, Connecticut Audubon Society-Fairfield Region\, and the Greenwich Audubon Center are community partners for this exhibition and its related programming. \n  \nLearn more about the event and how to watch on Eventbrite. \n  Save

SUMMARY:TAKAYO NODA: MY DOG IS SWEET
DESCRIPTION:Denise Bibro Fine Art is pleased to announce the completion of My Dog is Sweet\, by Takayo Noda. Noda has created a visual response to our current pandemic climate\, specifically targeting youngsters. She has created A-Z twenty-six color penciled illustrations. These poignant works of art not only educate and inform but offer a psychological boost to all that experience them. Each letter of the alphabet is illustrated with vibrant color\, form\, and structural content. The text and images provoke and employ the viewer to engage in the beauties and narratives that are presented; all inspired by nature and under this Corona umbrella. When children become dependent on receiving most of their education and stimulation at home their emotional\, physical\, and psychological needs must be nurtured. Noda’s art invites them to be proactive and participate in the universal narratives that we are all experiencing and visualizing each day. This proactivity provides a platform in which to respond positively and not feel alone. Noda has created a tour de force in the most elegant and powerful way during some of the worst and most difficult times. \nTakayo Noda was born in Japan. Moving to the U.S. in the 1960’s; she has lived here ever since. She studied with Robert Conover at the New School of Social Research and with Michael Ponce De Leon and Leo Manso at the Art Students League in New York City. \nMs. Noda’s work is in numerous private and public collections\, including work in the Lotos Club Collection\, NYC. Among her public commissions is a large installation of six faceted stained-glass panels for the MTA in New York City at their Sutter Avenue\, L Line subway station. \nMs. Noda’s first children’s picture book\, Dear World\, a collection of poems and collage illustrations was published by Penguin in 2003. The book received starred reviews in Kirkus reviews and The School Library Journal. SUMMARY:Storytelling Through Photography Remote Learning
DESCRIPTION:These Zoom sessions will fully reflect the same content as with the on-ground workshops offered by the FMoPA institute. \nWe all have a story to tell\, a legacy or statement\, a call to action\, a declaration of what you believe\, what makes you mad or happy\, your unique observations of the world around you\, your life itself with its peaks and valleys. The medium of photography makes it possible to tell your story and sometimes make a change. A picture tells a thousand words. Several pictures correctly sequenced tell a full story – your individual story. \nIn this workshop\, you will learn the art of telling a story through creating a visual narrative. Multiple images have the power of expressing thoughts\, ideas\, experiences and beliefs in a linear format. Storyboarding and careful sequencing of photographs following a clear concept\, your unique voice and communications to the outside world\, using many case studies and background information on the starting point of any project: The Why\, What\, Who\, and How. \nWe all have a unique story to share with others\, it can be a powerful and quiet voice\, but we have a responsibility to tell our stories as part of our background\, culture\, legacy and circumstances. The power of words through titles or series’ names are also explored\, rounding up to a full story. \n  Save

SUMMARY:Opening Reception for Carlos Rancaño: Intimacy and Introversion
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the opening of  Intimacy and Introversion\, an exhibition featuring new works by Carlos Antonio Rancaño. \n  \nIf ever you watch Carlos Antonio Rancaño while he paints\, you will appreciate another layer of interest to his work\, which is the application of paint and his brushstroke. In the early stages of his work\, there appears to be an explosion of application and drips\, which initially liken themselves to the semi-chaotic school of abstraction\, but with each layer\, Rancaño tames that explosion resulting in the private moments caught in all his works. This painterly manner also enhances the idea that these are not traditional figurative pieces\, but the exploration of the private against the public\, and like we all have to—one must go through the challenge and end up clearing out the noise\, the distraction to arrive at a plane of acceptance. \n  \nCarlos Rancaño\, in his solo exhibition at The CAMP Gallery: Intimacy and Introversion offers a narrative of sensual poses\, introspective moments laced with symbols created in 2020 and this year documenting the resilience of both the artist and his subjects. Outwardly the works and the poses often suggest the sensual\, as the majority are nudes\, but that is just the superficial layer to Rancaño’s work—always beneath the many layers also lie the many levels of personality\, the often struggle between the private and the public\, and the trepidation of individuality in a conformist society. \n  \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n  \nCurated by Melanie Prapopoulos. \n  \n\n\n\n\n  Save

SUMMARY:Observing Birds: Appearance\, Sounds\, and Behaviors
DESCRIPTION:Join the Greenwich Audubon Center for a discussion on the art of observing birds! \nThis event will be hosted live on the Greenwich Audubon Center’s Facebook. \nWhen observing birds\, there is often more than meets the eye. Whether you enjoy photographing\, drawing\, or painting birds\, or you just enjoy the company of birds\, it is helpful to understand birds’ overall natural histories. This includes their appearance\, behaviors\, calls\, materials they use for their nests\, habitats they spend time in\, flight patterns\, and how they interact with their environment. \nIn this virtual program\, Audubon Bird Education Specialist Ryan MacLean will bring you outside to observe and listen for birds. He will also show you specimens such as bird nests to gain a greater contextual understanding of them. We will also explain how you can contribute to the conservation of many of our bird species by participating in seasonal bird counts while you observe them. \nNot only can we gain a greater understanding and appreciation of these birds by unlocking the secrets to their lives\, but we can also help create a better future for their existence. This program is a special collaboration between Greenwich Audubon and the Fairfield University Art Museum\, and is presented as part of their Birds of the Northeast: Gulls to Great Auks exhibition and program offerings. \nMake sure to also check out the Fairfield University Art Museum’s virtual exhibition\, Birds of the Northeast: Gulls to Great Auks: https://www.fairfield.edu/museum/birdsofthenortheast/ \n  Save

SUMMARY:PREPARATOR’S CHOICE
DESCRIPTION:Denise Bibro Fine Art is pleased to announce the opening of Preparator’s Choice. The show will run through March 27\, 2021. \nPreparator’s Choice is a selection of works curated by the gallery’s preparator\, Stuart Elvidge\, who has selected these works from our back-room collection. Who would know more than a good preparator of the treasures that linger in a galleries’ back room\, waiting to be viewed\, interpreted\, talked about\, and coveted. Our preparator\, languishing with the calamities of this pandemic for a year\, has been encouraged to choose works to hang on our naked walls. This group exhibition is a diverse collection of art jewels\, various aesthetics\, mediums\, and narratives. Despite their disparities\, they all give the viewer a narrative and present a short journey for the viewer. \nWe encourage everyone to take this journey of exploration and find their favorites. We invite any and all to have an intimate\, Covid-protected environment by scheduling an appointment with our gallery staff. \n  Save
