SUMMARY:MILLICENT YOUNG : In the Silence Between
DESCRIPTION:Millicent Young’s installation In the Silence Between is a meditative solo exhibition at the newly opened Studio Building Gallery at Kaatsbaan Cultural Park. Utilizing humble elements such as horse-hair\, ceramic\, lead\, barbed wire and wood\, Ms. Young creates quiet but powerful pieces that resonate with timeless space. A reception for the artist will be held on August 6\, 4-6pm at Kaatsbaan Cultural Part Studio Building Gallery in conjunction with the outdoor Sculpture Exhibition Reception where Young also has an installation: remains – an epic artwork incorporating the poetry of Jane Hirshfield. \n“Her wall works\, an amalgam of resonant materials nearly Shaker-like in their austerity and beauty\, owe their spiritual reach to the horsehair and muted metal she makes use of.” — JONATHAN GOODMAN \n  Save

SUMMARY:Kaatsbaan Outdoor Sculpture Park
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, August 6\, 2022\, 4-6pm\, Kaatsbaan Cultural Park will host a public reception and artist walk to celebrate the 2022 outdoor sculpture exhibition. This is the second year that contemporary sculpture has been installed at Kaatsbaan for the Summer Festival season. Curated by Hilary Greene\, the artworks complement the ongoing dance\, music\, poetry\, and culinary arts summer programming. This year’s participating artists are: Emil Alzamora\, Stuart Farmery\, Tristan Fitch\, Jared Handelsman\, Kenichi Hiratsuka\, Lowell Miller\, Portia Munson\, Shelley Parriott\, Eileen M. Power\, Gregory Steel\, Christina Tenaglia\, and Millicent Young.\nThe sculpture exhibition originated in 2021 in response to the Pandemic as Kaatsbaan moved its events outdoors so both artists and audience could safely experience Kaatsbaan’s world class dance and music performances. Exhibition curator Hilary Greene envisioned the artworks as multi- dimensional participants that activate and enhance the lush historic grounds.\nFocusing on mid-career sculptors\, Ms. Greene selected artworks that best embodied the spirit and flow of the Hudson Valley’s unique landscape and the joy of rhythm and movement. From hand-carved monuments and wire-bound stones\, to vibrant wooden forms and sheer colorful columns\, from a glowing silk banner and poetic etched glass\, to cast bronze figures and dancing ladders\, the outdoor sculpture exhibition at Kaatsbaan displays a powerful vocabulary and far-reaching range of contemporary art. \n  Save

SUMMARY:Meditative Art Experience
DESCRIPTION:MEDITATIVE ART EXPERIENCE\nEvent Date: August 6\, 2022\nEvent Time: 12pm – 1pm \nAdmission is Free\, but seating is limited. Must register here to participate. \nStrata Gallery presents a meditative artmaking opportunity on Saturday\, August 6 from 12-1pm. A body-scan meditation will be led by two artists and students within the exhibition space. \nRaimy Engel (she/her) and Tess Bourbeau (they/them) are both attending the graduate art therapy program at Southwestern College and New Earth Institute. They are passionate about the role art can take in developing self-attunement\, empathy\, and mental health care. \nThe intention of this body-scan and art experiential is to allow for the exploration of the body outside of physical categories. Self-image may not always be related to looks/body shape and may include knowledge of bodily history and boundaries. “The goal is to promote exploration of the unseen relationship we have with our bodies\,” the two facilitators state. \nAttendees will be guided through a body-scan meditation that pauses occasionally for responsive artmaking. All supplies will be provided. Tess and Raimy would like to acknowledge that a body-scan can be an intense experience for those with bodily trauma and encourage any interested participants to attune to their nervous system and engage with this meditation in a way that feels safe. \nStrata Gallery is open from 10 am to 5 pm Tuesday – Saturday. For more information about Strata Gallery and its current or future exhibits\, please visit the Strata Gallery website and Instagram. \nRaimy Engel (she/her) is an artist who is currently working towards my MA in Art Therapy and Counseling at Southwestern College and New Earth Institute here in Santa Fe. She is passionate about the impact art can have on the understanding of ourselves and\, consequently\, others. \nTess Bourbeau (they/them) is a multi-media artist pursuing a Master’s in Art Therapy and Counseling at Southwestern College. They explore themes of radical authenticity and empathy in my creative and academic work. \nMASKS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE \n  Save

SUMMARY:FORD CRULL: MANY RIVERS TO CROSS
DESCRIPTION:Happy Hour Gallery is pleased to present a solo show of paintings by New York City/Woodstock NY-based painter Ford Crull   July 30th – August 9th. Ford Crull’s vibrant and meditative canvases bridge the legacy of Abstract Expressionism together with Symbolism to form entirely unique\, narrative canvases imbued with centuries of religion and culture in a spontaneous\, constantly evolving visual metaphor. Once completed\, his large and small paintings take on a life of their own with the viewer: organic tapestries of oil paint imbued with historical symbols as well as Crull’s own private kinetic and emotive painting. His richly vibrant canvases of deep red and blue oil pigments form an alchemic combination of civilisation’s most important religious and cultural iconography\, such as crosses\, circles\, knots\, shields and hearts. These anchors of culture easily float and blend into the beautiful and evocatively pigmented canvas in a conversation with the viewer\, creating a dialogue that transcends space and being. Thus\, Crull’s paintings exist in their own intentional and spontaneous planes of interpretation\, constantly evoking memory and emotion within the bandwidth of each new encounter and interaction with viewers. \nAbout Happy Hour Gallery – Happy Hour Gallery is the Hampton’s newest art gallery\, with it’s inaurgural exhibition launch on July 2\, 2022. SUMMARY:Artist Talks: July/August 2022 Exhibitions
DESCRIPTION:Learn more about the artists and their artwork featured in Artspace’s July-August exhibitions.\n \nArtspace presents three exhibitions which focus on landscape\, mood and atmosphere. These exhibitions showcase a group exhibition by Hernan Murno\, Amy Sabrin\, Michelle Simoneau and Rosa Vera\, photography by Karen Commings and Andrew Hoff\, and tapestries by Susan Iverson\nWorlds Apart is a group show by Hernan Murno\, Amy Sabrin\, Michelle Simoneau and Rosa Vera. These four artists create diverse abstract and semi-representational work springing from the same impulse: the landscape\, whether the natural or built environment. Each takes a dramatically different approach to extracting and abstracting the essence of a landscape\, but all hope to provoke an emotional response in the viewer.\nKaren Commings’ and R. Andrew Hoff’s joint exhibition\, Carnival Nights\, is a photographic montage featuring edgy\, moody\, somber or surreal images of county fairs and community festivals in four states taken over the course of three years. Hoff and Commings state\, “The facial expressions\, postures and attitudes show the tedium of carnival life as the evening lingers on. There are multiple stories in these images left to the imagination.”\nIn Observation – Light\, Susan Iverson’s tapestries attempt to capture the strong emotions connected to fleeting moments of ocular pleasure. She is attracted to the transitory nature of atmospheric color\, especially at dawn and dusk\, when magical moments of intense color are experienced and remembered\, but seldom in their fullness.\nDuring the July-August show\, an exhibit of fine art produced by members of the gallery will also be on display\, illustrating the range and diversity of Artspace’s artist membership.\n\nExhibition Dates: July 22 – August 20\, 2022\nArtist Talks: Saturday\, July 23\, 2pm\n  \n  Save

SUMMARY:Kaethe Kauffman – Yoga: Interiore Eterno
DESCRIPTION:Hawaii-based artist Kaethe Kauffman’s exhibition Yoga: Interiore Eterno is an installation of prints on silk that documents both physical movement and meditative stasis. Using a string dipped in paint\, the artist ties the filament around a hand\, knee\, elbow\, or torso\, and when the body part is flexed\, the movement is recorded as a kind of off-printing. In Kauffman’s art\, the body writes itself upon its own skin in a ritual of self-revelation. This act of marking and exposure is documented by Kauffman’s photographic images\, which are digitally repeated and colored\, drawn upon by hand in a variety of media and the vibrant results are printed on silk much like the large banners found in Buddhist temples. In an expansion of the body’s own “speech” through movement\, Kaethe Kauffman’s images combine into larger fields of replication and mirroring\, until the individual body is subsumed into a larger vision. A long-time practitioner of yoga and body movement\, Kaethe Kauffman has been the subject of solo exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad. This exhibtion\, Yoga: Interiore Eterno” is the first time the artist will be exhibiting in Venice\, IT from July 15 – November 13\, 2022. there will be a reception for the artist\, Friday July 15\, 2022 from 7pm – 9pm ( 19:00 – 21:00 GMT +1) \n  Save

SUMMARY:Lucia Warck-Meister: Fragmentos Rescatados
DESCRIPTION:In The Contemporary Art Modern Project’s showing of Fragmentos Rescatados\, Lucia Warck-Meister deals with the concept of memory\, be it its relationship with nationhood\, its deprecation in the face of historical revisionism\, and its frailty in part due to the ravages of change and time. Curated by Mario Andres Rodriguez. An opening reception will be hosted in our Miami gallery on July 15 from 6-8 PM \n  \nAmongst the abstract thoughts privy only to mankind\, collective memory is unique in its ability to creep into identity. Countless examples exist: the liturgical stories we use to guide our lives in global religions\, the filtered recounting of nationhood fed to the global youth in elementary schools\, the story of how your mom and dad fell in love and fatefully conceived their children. These memories inform who we are and what we believe about the world around us; because of their centrality in our paradigm of thought\, one would imagine that these memories were durable\, steadfast\, tangible items\, that they are realities of one’s life. Such a status would make life more simplistic and direct. \n\n\n\n\n  \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Lucia Warck-Meister: \n  \nLucia Warck-Meister is a sculptor and mixed-media artist interested in exploring individual and collective memory and how they build the foundation of our identity. “Who we are is contingent on what we remember\, and how we use those memories to construct new narratives. Through memory\, I explore ideas of identity\, gender\, narrative\, and visibility.” \nWarck-Meister holds an MFA from UNA University of the Arts\, Buenos Aires. Her works have been exhibited at the DUMBO Arts Festival\, New York\, Palm Beach International Biennial\, Florida; Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition Bellevue\, WA\, Museo del Barrio\, New York; New York LatinAmerican Triennial\, NYC; Katonah Museum of Art\, NY; Museum of the Americas\, Washington DC; Griffiss Sculpture Park\, Rome\, NY; Miura Museum of Art\, Matsuyama City\, Japan; Briggens Museum\, Bergen\, Norway\, Deutsche Bank Foundation\, New York; Piedmont Biennial\, Torino\, Italy; National Endowment for the Arts\, Buenos Aires\, Recoleta Cultural Center\, Buenos Aires\, MAT Tigre Art Museum\, Buenos Aires; MUMBAT\, Tandil; Timoteo Navarro Museum\, Tucumán\, Argentina. \n  \n\n\n\n\nFragmentos Rescatados is available for viewing in our North Miami gallery at 791 NE 125th St. from July 15th – August 26th. \n  \nSi desea información en español\, puede enviar un email a hello@thecampgallery.com \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  Save

SUMMARY:The Contemporary Art Modern Project at Hamptons Fine Art Fair — Booth #307
DESCRIPTION:The Contemporary Art Modern Project is proud to announce its participation in the Hamptons Fine Art Fair 2022. The goal of the CAMP‘s booth\, Metamorphosis\,  is to contrast the abstractions of Liz Leggett\, Melissa Dadourian\, and Clara Fialho\, all of which are united by an intentional use of color\, to create a visceral experience of the perpetual dance between liminality and distinction. \n  \nAs a whole\, the works by Leggett\, Dadourian\, and Fialho embody a distilled version of a life cycle. Each work holds within it the knowledge and beauty of the various stages we all traverse during our lifetime\, and regardless of which stage one is currently in\, there is resonance to be found. \n\nStatment and curation by Brianna Luz Fernandez \n  Save

SUMMARY:ritual being opening reception
DESCRIPTION:In her first curatorial project\, Martine Gutierrez brings together work by nineteen young artists working in a variety of mediums to explore the state and fate of humanity. A forward-looking exploration of the zeitgeist\, ritual being reconsiders commonly held images of what the future looks like. Futurist daydreams of flying cars and glass cities are no more. Instead\, the artists selected by Gutierrez envision a “post-modern\, post-monogamous\, post-gender\, post-script\, post-colonial\, post-traumatic\, post-depressive\, post-apocalyptic” world that is far grittier and down to earth than the ones predicted by 1980s science fiction imaginings. \n  \nThe show\, which will include a sculpture and an accompanying presentation in RLWindow by Gutierrez\, will play with the politics of identity and the uncertain fate of our planet. The exhibition will include work by both established and emerging artists\, including Sebastian Silva\, Mexican Jihad\, Andy K-B\, Sam Sae Jin Chun\, Christopher Udemezue\, Heesoo Kwon\, Martine Gutierrez\, Manal Kara\, Charlie Mai\, Pedro Emanuel\, Emma Safir\, Stewart Uoo\, and Avion Pearce\, Wang Shui\, among others. Reflecting on climate change\, gender\, race\, identity\, sexuality\, technology\, faith\, and conflict\, the show will ask visitors to question everything about our current moment. \n  Save
