SUMMARY:4th Friday Art Shows and Opening Reception @ Art Works
DESCRIPTION:Art Works presents our first installation exhibit in the main gallery. Three artists collaborate merging film\, structures\, objects from nature and water to investigate ideas and emotions intertwined in all these objects. Solo exhibits include urban and natural photography by Darin Patterson and textiles by Dawn Vass. And as always\, we host the monthly All Media Show featuring Virginia artists. \n\nJoin us on July 28th 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. for the opening reception. Meet the artists and enjoy live music\, refreshments and libations sponsored by RVA Thriving Artists. Parking is free. Incipience continues through September 16th. The other exhibits continue through August 19\, 2023. This event is free and open to the public.\nIncipience by Shelia M. Gray and Ryan K. Carlson in collaboration with Oli Begley and Steven Warwick \nIncipience is a collaborative art installation that investigates the ideas and emotions around the intertwinement of natural elements\, found objects\, created materials and physicality. These artists approach this through the basis of opening up\, rooting in\, rising above\, flight\, and growth taking into consideration the inception of things and emotions. Their exhibit evokes a sense of composed unbalance\, familiar surrealism\, and curiosity of sentiment. \n  \nThe exhibit will be in the Jane Sandelin Gallery. \n  \nTattered\, Torn and Sewn by Dawn Vass   \nFor this exhibit Dawn Vass uses fibers\, stitching\, paint and sometimes paper to create small intricate pieces\, large art quilts\, and some figurative sculptural pieces. Vass’s work is driven by her love of texture and color\, what she can make with them and how to manipulate these elements through building layers. Whether\, painting\, sewing\, or sculpting\, the actual tactile experience is a significant driving force in her work. By tearing\, stretching\, and wrinkling\, she connects to the raw edges of the fabric or paper. When sewing\, she creates movement with the stitches; the technique becomes secondary. Her mark-making is through stitches\, either with a machine or by hand. Her work is usually abstract\, but sometimes evolves into the non-objective. She develops color relationships and prefers bright colors but can be drawn to more neutral tones if her inspiration is from nature. This exhibit is an exploration of rhythm\, repetition\, organic shapes\, and natural elements. Fabric has a long historical and cultural subtle relationship to women\, which encourages Vass to explore both in her art. This exhibit will be in the Corner Gallery. \n  \nThe Natural World in an Urban Jungle by Darin Patterson \nDarin Patterson is a travel photographer based in the southeast United States. He enjoys photographing and documenting the beauty of the world. Patterson believes there is art in most things when you look at it with the correct lens and from the right point of view. Most fascinating is the juxtaposition of the natural world coexisting with the developed world. The balance between those two worlds is delicate but in this series one can see there is a way for the two competing worlds to live together. Elements from both worlds are incorporated into each of the photographs with many of those being in direct interaction with each other. \nThe exhibit is in the Skylight Gallery. \n  \nALL MEDIA SHOW \nThis exhibit is a focal point of all Art Works’ openings. It is a juried show with cash prizes for 1st\, 2nd and 3rd place. The juror\, Julz Suder is a practicing artist and art educator originally from Pittsburgh\, Pennsylvania. She is a graduate of VCU’s Art Education program where she developed knowledge of many types of art media. Julz has proudly taught art in a classroom setting for most of her career and now works in the public-school sector as a Fine Arts Instructional Specialist. In her personal art\, she explores a range of media\, but enjoys sculpting from wool using wet felting techniques and creating textural properties using her sewing machine. She enjoys the stories behind the objects people create and the magic of making something from nothing. The show is open to all artists and all mediums. This exhibit will be in the Centre Gallery. There is no theme for this exhibit\, anything goes\, any medium. Call for entries is June 1\, 2023 – July 17\, 2023. Submit your entries through our online form. SUMMARY:JENNE CURRIE | TRACY PHILLIPS
DESCRIPTION:Castello 925 presents a two-person exhibition of sculptural collages by Jenne Currie and small oil paintings by Tracy Phillips opening 22 July and running through 10 September\, 2023 with a reception for the artists on Saturday\, 22 July from 18:30 – 20:30 at Castello 780\, Venice IT. Both of these artists have shown extensively in the United States and this is their first exhibition in Italy.  \n  \nJenne Currie’s paintings balance sculptural space against the limits of the two-dimensional substrate. The shadows made by the suspended shapes are influenced by shifting ambient light. These ever-changing silhouettes allow the passage of time its accompanying shadows to serve as a painterly component alongside pigments and medium. \n  \nTracy Phillips straddles a space that shifts between within and without and her colors illuminate passageways. Phillips’ brushwork describes naturalistic light effects on configurations balancing on the cusp of the known and unknowable. The perceived sensation is of a world originating somewhere inside the viewer and then traversing beyond into more obscure realms. \n  \nAbout Jenne Currie \nJenne Currie is a sculptor\, painter and art educator based in Woodstock\, NY. She has shown extensively in the United States and has had solo shows most recently in Buster Levi Gallery\, Beacon NY and has participated in group exhibitions at the Lockwood Gallery\, Kingston NY.  \n  \nAbout Tracy Phillips \nTracy Phillips is an American artist working in New York City and in the Catskills. Having exhibited widely\, Phillips has participated in many exhibitions and was recently awarded the Arthur Harris award from the Woodstock Artists Association and Museum.  \n  \nAbout Castello 925 \nCastello 925 is a multi-disciplined gallery which serves as a crucible for the visual arts\, literature and culture. Founder Luca Caldironi envisioned a space dedicated to creativity\, or rather cre-activity\, an all-embracing 360-degree innovative nexus offering plenty of opportunity for imagination. Castello 925 is a gallery where experimental expressions of all kinds come to meet\, collaborate\, improvise\, produce and construct; a place to present “finished” works that were built elsewhere\, yet also a space where new ideas and new co-operations come to life. Castello 925 provides room to live and breathe — not just for exhibitions\, but support for the everyday life of an artist\, the quietude of  a writer’s research\, or the exchange between passionate art-seekers and collectors. \n  Save

SUMMARY:You Should Be Here
DESCRIPTION:San Diego\, California- Madison Gallery announces You Should Be Here\, a group exhibition that delves into the visual exploration of abstract form in movement and materials. The showcase features four artists who examine the ways in which shapes and physical configurations occupy space\, focusing on two distinct categories of abstract forms: Organic and Geometric. \nSantiago Parra\, a celebrated Colombian painter\, is widely recognized for his striking black-and-white artworks that evoke expansiveness and raw emotion. He ventures into the realm of organic forms by integrating marble dust\, allowing him to explore the depths of darkness and the myriad shades it holds. Parra’s artistic journey involves the creation of a single brushstroke that emerges from the depths of his subconscious. This technique is rooted in automatism\, where the artwork springs forth from the unconscious mind. The forms that Parra creates are explosive and boundless\, brimming with complexity that invites viewers to unravel the countless possibilities concealed within them. \nMax Frintrop\, from Germany\, utilizes ink as a medium for his artistic expressions. With a unique blowing technique\, he disperses pigment across the canvas\, engaging in a collaborative process with the medium itself. For Frintrop\, painting transcends mere creation; it becomes a channel for contemplation\, an extension of his conscious self. The outcome manifests as a collection of delicate organic shapes that bleed and intertwine\, capturing intricate thoughts and emotions on the canvas. Through this artistic process\, Frintrop delves into the interplay between arrangement and spaces\, unraveling the complexities of their relationships. \nElliott Routledge\, hailing from Australia and known by the pseudonym “FUNSKULL\,” skillfully combines organic and geometric elements\, resulting in captivating\, free-flowing shapes. Routledge’s work exists in a delicate equilibrium between expressive mark-making\, abstract form\, and often incorporates word-based art. His implementation of color theory and compositions seamlessly integrates subtle geometric hints through repetition and symmetry. \nOn the other hand\, Lori Cozen-Geller from the United States\, employs deliberately geometric and intentional forms in her artwork. Marked by meticulous precision\, Cozen-Geller’s pieces feature rigid structures enveloped in a high gloss\, mirror-like finish that accentuates their surface luster. This contrast between structure and surface challenges viewers’ perception of the object\, prompting a reevaluation of what is seen and how it is comprehended\, as aptly noted by art critic Peter Frank. \nThe exhibition “You Should Be Here” at Madison Gallery offers a captivating exploration of abstract form through the juxtaposition of organic and geometric shapes. By examining the works of Santiago Parra\, Max Frintrop\, Elliott Routledge\, and Lori Cozen-Geller\, viewers are immersed in a diverse range of artistic approaches that exemplify the expressive potential and aesthetic allure of organic and geometric forms within the realm of contemporary art. \n  Save

SUMMARY:In-Person SAAM Arcade
DESCRIPTION:Turn the volume up for our annual exploration of video games and art\, SAAM Arcade 2023! This annual celebration of creativity and innovation in games explores many of the same themes on display in the new exhibition Musical Thinking: New Video Art and Sonic Strategies. The exhibition explores the powerful resonances between recent video art and popular music. Like the works of video art highlighted in the galleries\, video games employ the same toolkit to evoke emotional responses and communicate the game’s story\, values\, and goals. Music can act as a building block for game worlds and a mechanic for navigating those worlds through rhythm and repetition. This year\, the popular Indie Developer Showcase will highlight games that use music and sound design in engaging\, experimental\, and inventive ways\, from rhythm games to musical instrument simulators to groundbreaking soundtracking. Play classic video and arcade games provided by local partner MAGFest and explore SAAM’s collection with a sonic-inspired art scavenger hunt. SUMMARY:BRIAN DICKERSON | Constructed Paintings & Drawings
DESCRIPTION:BRIAN DICKERSON | Constructed Paintings & Drawings is a solo exhibition of recent paintings and drawings by Brian Dickerson opening with a reception for the artist at Lightforms Gallery in Hudson\, NY. on July 15\, 2023\, 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Dickerson’s paintings are structured from aggregated surfaces\, rich with energetic brushwork\, that envelope built-in elements. The raised edges act as bridges\, buttresses and apertures that at once tip and balance as their silhouettes continuously change with the ambient light. Lengthening and shortening shadows invite meditation as the viewer dwells in the crevasses only to emerge again to travel nimbly between narrow ledges and mysterious angles. Though the paintings invite intimacy\, Dickerson also leads a visual journey as vast as deserts as he engages with eternal questions of space and being. \n  \nBrian Dickerson has had numerous solo exhibitions both internationally at Ballinglen Arts Foundation\,(Ballycastle\, Ireland) and nationally at Kouros Gallery and OK Harris (NYC\, NY)\, Institute of Man and Science (Rensselaerville\, NY)\, Bill Lowe Gallery (Atlanta\, GA)\, Benjamin Mangel Gallery\, Seraphin Gallery and Hahn Gallery (Philadelphia\, PA)\, The Grosvenor Art Gallery (S.U.N.Y. Cobleskill\, NY) and the Museum at the University of Wyoming\, (Laramie\, WY)\, among others. He has also been featured in many group exhibitions including the Delaware Art Museum\, American University Museum – Katzen Art Center (Wash. D.C.) the Woodmere Museum and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts\, (Phila. PA). Dickerson has been the recipient of many awards notably a Franz and Virginia Bader Fund Grant and a Ballinglen Foundation Fellowship. Brian Dickerson has an upcoming 2023 solo exhibition at Lightforms (Hudson. N.Y.) and abroad in Hertogenbosch\, Netherlands (May 24 – June 20\, 2023). \n  Save

SUMMARY:BARBARA GROSSMAN:  Patterning Women
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition Dates: July 11 – 29\, 2023 \nOpening Reception: Thurs\, July 13\,  5PM–8PM \nArtist will be present on Saturdays  2PM–6PM \n  \nBowery Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of the recent paintings and oil stick drawings by Barbara Grossman. \nGrossman’s imagery is rich with luminous colors\, shifting spaces and complex patterns that interweave with the women who inhabit interiors. Their activity seems to be one involved with music\, singing and sometimes reading.  In the current catalogue that accompanies the exhibition\, the artist and writer John Goodrich says\, “The artist’s spaces are rife with contradictions. Floors become backgrounds\, distant forms feel proximate\, while frontal\, tipped-up elements direct us into the depths.”  \nFor a long time\, Barbara Grossman has been inventing\, using clues from her deep interest in Indian and Middle Eastern imagery. Recent trips to Turkey and Morocco were transformative as she experienced her internal passions. “As Western art history is belatedly dropping the use of ‘decorative’ as an opposite of ‘substantive’ and gaining an appreciation of the significance possible through pattern\, it is a good moment to reflect on the independent-minded achievement that Barbara Grossman’s paintings represent\,” writes artist Christina Kee in the exhibition catalog. \nBarbara Grossman has exhibited extensively in museums and galleries throughout the United States and is in numerous public and private collections including the Arkansas Art Center\, Hood Museum at Dartmouth\, National Academy of Design and the State Museum of Pennsylvania. \nGrossman has received awards including the Henry Ward Ranger Fund Purchase\, two Connecticut Commission on the Arts Grants\, Ingram Merrill Foundation Fellowship Grant\, and a Fulbright Hayes Fellowship to Germany. \nGallery Hours: Tues-Sat\, 11AM-6PM \n(646) 230-6655 \ninfo@bowerygallery.org \nwww.bowerygallery.org \n  Save

SUMMARY:Present Perfect
DESCRIPTION:Artist Nathan Vass‘ chosen medium\, analogue color photography\, will be remembered as one of the shortest-lived art forms; it came of age in the ’70s\, the populist sibling of B&W (itself the awkward stepchild of painting) and part of a medium invented too late to be taken seriously. It died out in large part on August 30th\, 2018\, when the last large professional-grade\, public-access color darkroom in the US closed its doors. The timing is unfortunate: film\, though no longer the norm for image-making\, remains the premier avenue of approach for fine art photo work and is the fastest-growing trend in photography today. After two decades of experimentation with digital cameras\, there can be no arguing that film yields a better image. In so doing\, what else does it tell us? \nPhotography is a preservationist’s medium. We photographers seek to capture\, freeze\, save the past. We strive desperately to stop time\, and we always fail. Or do we? Film photography is the physicality of a moment. You are looking at paper coated with silver halide crystals which have been burned by photons at a precise moment in time\, causing them to change color. The light’s alteration of a print surface’s structural composition more closely resembles sculpture than digital photography\, which interprets reality as colored squares instead of reshaping– quite literally– the material residue of a split second. It is the closest we can come to freezing the physicality of a moment\, and somehow it feels appropriate that it’s achieved not with brushes or ink but something as ephemeral as light itself. Should we forever mourn life’s passing\, or shall we instead rejoice in its qualities\, and those of the things we have also lost? \nThe pieces in Present Perfect are handmade\, analogue prints from a discipline Vass trained in which no longer exists\, depicting spaces and people which will never quite be as you see them here. \nLet us nurture the skill we will need ever more as life progresses. Let us celebrate what was. The past need not be looked at solely through the lens of sorrow. We own our memories\, and are lucky to have them. “Melancholy is the happiness of being sad\,” Hugo wrote. Let us therefore revel in what we can no longer touch\, rejoice in what we once so easily knew. \nLife is too glorious not to celebrate. \n  Save

SUMMARY:SELF: Portraits + Places Artists Talk with Eleanor Heartney
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, July 2\, starting at 3pm\, join culture critic Eleanor Heartney in a conversation with the artists and curator of SELF: Portraits + Places currently on view at the Kleinert/James Center for the Arts in Woodstock\, NY.. Eleanor Heartney\, a long-time contributing editor of Art in America\, is the author of numerous books\, including Art & Today\, Postmodern Heretics\, and co-author of After the Revolution: Women Who Transformed Contemporary Art. This relaxed discussion among painters Brenda Goodman\, Julie Heffernan\, Elisa Jensen and curator Melinda Stickney-Gibson will explore the artists’ motivations\, practice and process. Light refreshments will be provided. Suggested donation: $10.00  \n  \nAbout the Artists in SELF: Portrait + Places \nBrenda Goodman: Considered “one of the most powerful and disturbing achievements of portraiture in modern art” by critic John Yau\, Brenda Goodman paints herself in full-body\, naked and standing alone in her own studio. These figures predate Goodman’s more recent abstract paintings and were featured in an early 2023 solo exhibition at Sikkema Jenkins & Co.\, New York\, NY. www.brendagoodman.com \nJulie Heffernan: The fluidity of the female form combined with the botany of the natural world merge together in the paintings of Julie Heffernan. These personal allegories become mythic tales of heroines with a strength that can control telluric currents\, redirect the stars and ultimately bend destiny. Ms. Heffernan has recently had a solo exhibition at Hirschl & Adler Modern\, NY\, N.Y. \nwww.julieheffernan.net \nElisa Jensen: The serenity of space and the intimate connection to objects in our world is Elisa Jensen’s subject matter. Depicting humble domestic objects and phenomena such as a lamp\, a book or a beam of yellow light through a window Jensen presents a cumulative message of who we believe we are. www.elisajensen.com \nAbout the Curator: \nMelinda Stickney-Gibson has had over 25 one-person exhibitions\, and has participated in numerous group shows throughout the country. Her work has been reviewed in ARTnews\, ARTS Magazine\, REVIEW Magazine\, Neoteric Art\, ARTNET\, and she has been a recipient of two Pollack Krasner Grants. In 2022\, Stickney-Gibson curated the outdoor exhibition Shelter for the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild’s White Pines Estate. www.melindastickneygibson.com \n  Save

SUMMARY:June-July Exhibits @ Art Works!
DESCRIPTION:See 5 new exhibits and 80 working artist studios. Admission is free and open to the public Tuesdays – Sundays 11 am – 5pm.  Exhibits include: \nRecent Works by John Wagoner \nJohn Wagoner challenges the notion of what defines a painting by creating works of art that transition between painting and sculpture. The audience can examine and experience these boundaries or relationships within these works\, presented in different modalities\, and to view paint as a very fluid medium. \n  \nThe exhibit will be in the Jane Sandelin Gallery. \n  \nRecent Work by John Van Zandt \nJohn Van Zandt enjoys exploring with bright\, bold colors and contrasting realism with abstract images and backgrounds. He works primarily with acrylic and canvas as he appreciates the speed at which layers can be added to backgrounds. Letting no paint go to waste he explores new ways to incorporate dried paints into his pieces. \n  \nThe exhibit will be in the Centre Gallery \n  \nThe Unseen by Jasmine Mills \nAs an artist\, Jasmine Mills enjoys bringing her thoughts and ideas into the physical world and merging the Unseen into Seen. She creates abstract art based on perceptions and thoughts on overcoming demons\, healing\, societies struggles\, and cultural influences throughout her Life. \n  \nThe exhibit will be in the Corner Gallery. \n  \n  \n  \n  \nSilver Lining by Adam Reinhard \nAfter six years spent buried under the noise of Washington D.C.\, Adam Reinhard returned to the Blue Ridge Mountains where he feels that he can finally hear\, breathe\, and see again.  And there is so much to see. Reinhard is convinced that there are secret colors only to be found where those ancient crusts rise up and out of the Shenandoah valley. Working under the restraints of shifting light\, cold\, and heat has served as Reinhard’s inspiration. Whether it’s the siding of a dilapidated barn\, ribbons of water working their way down a stream bed\, or endless rows of corn in patchwork farms\, he finds that it is often the boldest strokes\, reacting to the quickly changing environment\, which portray the truth as he sees it. This exhibit will be in the Port Gallery. \nJune 2023 ALL MEDIA ART SHOW \nThis exhibit is a focal point of all Art Works’ openings. It is a juried show with cash prizes for 1st\, 2nd and 3rd place. The show is open to all artists and all mediums. This exhibit will be in the Skylight Gallery. There is no theme for this exhibit\, anything goes\, any medium. SUMMARY:Island Time
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition of artists living and working in the Philippines Curated by James Clar \nJane Lombard Gallery is pleased to present Island Time\, a group exhibition curated by gallery artist James Clar. Featuring a wide range of practices\, Island Time explores the subjective notion of time and its social\, cultural\, and historical fluidity from the lens of emerging and mid-career artists living and working in the Philippines. Island Time will include work by Poklong Anading\, Miguel Aquilizan\, Leslie De Chavez\, Corinne De San Jose\, Kiko Escora\, Gregory Halili\, KoloWn\, Christina Lopez\, Gary-Ross Pastrana\, Luis Antonio Santos\, Shireen Seno\, and Derek Tumala. The exhibition will be on view June 23 – July 29\, 2023\, with an opening reception held on June 23 from 6-8 PM. \nTechno-Orientalism: Imagining Asia in Speculative Fiction\, History\, and Media offers a theoretical foundation for Island Time’s central premise. Described as a concept that “…symmetrically and yet contradictorily…defines a modern West by producing an oppositional and premodern East\,” techno-Orientalism refers to “a collusive\, futurized Asia” that “further affirm[s] the West’s centrality.” Othering\, in this framework\, has served to bolster the Western position of technological and cultural superiority\, while justifying the acts of dehumanization that underpin this carefully constructed hierarchy. \n\nFrom this lens\, however\, artists who have been subjected to the techno-Orientalist gaze have creatively subverted the dynamic to their own aims. The exhibition’s title reclaims the term from its derogatory origins\, often used to denote a disordered\, non-rigorous\, non-Western environment that runs on its own mechanisms and systems. In an act of defiant decoloniality\, such alternative temporalities are embraced by the selected artists as spaces to exist outside of Western hegemony. Within the psychological\, conceptual\, and communal realm of “island time\,” Clar has curated a meaningful exchange between diverse artists at the leading edge of contemporary art in the Philippines\, many of whom will be showing their work in New York for the first time. \nThe subjective and subversive aspects of time anchor the breadth of mediums and methods employed by the artists\, as does their shared context of making work in the Philippines. Despite this throughline\, the resounding commonality is\, in fact\, the lack thereof; multihyphenate\, category-defying work like that shown in Island Time emerges from a place of complex identity\, itself the result of hundreds of years of disparate histories\, distinct cultural indigeneity\, colonization from multiple countries\, and postcolonial nationhood. Further complicating the notion of identity\, many of the artists selected by Clar\, and Clar himself\, operate as “specular border intellectuals\,” or what Abdul JanMohamed describes as “one who is ‘familiar with two cultures\, [and] finds himself or herself unable or unwilling to be “at home” in these societies.’” The liminal space such artists inhabit is closely tied to their expansive understanding of time\, and the flexibility with which they can interpret and manipulate time as an artistic medium.  \nFor example\, Poklong Anading’s 60-minute video installation of the sunset and sunrise\, recorded from his studio window\, takes a literal approach to temporal ambiguity. Recordings of recordings of the magic hours of dusk and dawn\, played on a monitor in the same window of his studio\, create a layered\, recursive moving image work in which reality is altered\, and time is abstracted. Elsewhere in the exhibition\, Gregory Halili combines different dimensions of biological and geological time in his work\, using volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Taal within his drawings of skulls on locally-sourced mother of pearl shells. \nIn Corinne De San Jose’s cyanotypes of slides from decomposing film reels\, time is both an active agent of decay and a passive testament to the gaps in the archival record. The fragmented “media memory” of the Philippines complicates the passage of time and its collective perception\, as looking to the future often assumes a stable version of the past. Also referencing the history of photography\, Gary-Ross Pastrana explores the anachronistic nature of Philippine identity and experience in “COIN\,” a deconstructed photograph made of filed-down silver from a USA Silver Peso Dollar that was distributed during the U.S. occupation of the Philippines; the work recalls the recent history of American colonization\, as well as the silver-gelatin photographic process.  \nOther artists respond to the lasting effects of colonization as felt in present-day plights like political corruption\, climate change\, poverty\, and the exploitative economy of foreign tourism. Reflecting upon the legacy of Christian missionaries in the Philippines\, Derek Tumala created his work at the Manila Observatory\, originally founded by Jesuit priests\, adding a layer of religious context to the exhibition\, while Miguel Aquilizan’s work introduces an environmental angle\, dealing with the spread of Mahogany trees\, an invasive species that creates agricultural dead zones in the forests.\n\nWith a seemingly innocuous title\, Island Time challenges public expectations for a summer group exhibition\, provoking viewers to confront the elements of history and identity that run counter to their preconceived notions of the islands and the people who call them home. \n\nImage: Poklong Anading\, dusk and dawn\, 2003. Single-channel video\, CRT\, 60 minutes. Edition of 7 + 1 AP.\n____\nAbout James Clar \nJames Clar (b. Wisconsin\, 1979) lives and works in Manila\, Philippines. Clar’s work is an analysis and observation on the effects of media and technology on our perception of culture\, nationality\, and identity. His interest is in new technology and production processes\, using them as a medium\, while analyzing and critiquing their modifying effects on human behavior. \nClar received his BA in film and 3D animation and his MA in Media Art\, the Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) from the Tisch School\, New York University. His work has been exhibited at The Beams\, London\, UK;  Ayala Museum\, Manila\, Philippines; Pushkin Museum\, Moscow\, Russia; Mana Contemporary\, Jersey City\, NJ; Pera Art Museum\, Istanbul\, Turkey; Can Framis Museum\, Barcelona; Seoul Museum of Art\, Seoul\, South Korea; Museum of Contemporary Art\, Jacksonville\, FL; Sharjah Art Museum\, Sharjah\, UAE; MoMA PS1\, New York\, NY; Parasol unit\, London\, UK; The New Museum\, New York\, NY; Somerset House\, London\, UK; Museum on the Seam\, Jerusalem and Shadai Gallery at Tokyo Polytechnic University\, Tokyo\, Japan. His work is included in the collections of the 21c Museum\, Louisville\, US\, and the Yves Klein Foundation\, Paris\, France. Clar has been an artist in residence at Eyebeam Atelier in New York\, NY; Fabrica\, Treviso\, Italy\, and the FedEx Institute of Technology/Lantana Projects\, Memphis\, TN. James Clar is represented by Jane Lombard Gallery and Silverlens.  \nAbout Jane Lombard Gallery \nJane Lombard Gallery has an established reputation for bringing to the forefront artists who work within a global perspective/aesthetic relevant to the social and political climate of today.
