CURRENTS New Media

CURRENTS New Media champions new media arts and supports artists in creating innovative work. Our annual festival, educational programs, and exhibition space give the public year-round access to immersive and expansive art experiences.

Parallel Studios (a 501(c)(3) non-profit) has been producing, curating and designing small and large scale exhibitions in Santa Fe since 2002. In 2010, we launched CURRENTS New Media as an annual, citywide event. The festival brings together the work of established and emerging new media artists from New Mexico, the US and around the world.

CURRENTS 826 is Parallel Studios’ year-round exhibition and experience space. In addition to our annual summer festival, this permanent gallery space allows visitors to Santa Fe’s busy Canyon Road to experience new media work throughout the year. Currents 826 features interactive art and installations as well as a futuristic gift shop featuring objects fabricated using digital technology.

Currently on view: Earth’s Other: A Group Show of Experimental Prints

Earth’s Other presents print work of six artists informed by new media practices and perspectives: Colin Ives, Mint Boonyapanachoti + Michelle Hessel, David Stout, Anne Farrell, Fern Seiden and Gillian Brown.

The works on view share a preoccupation with both the earth and otherworldliness. The six artists in Earth’s Other use mechanisms, both analog and digital, to create ways of seeing the world and its inhabitants from a different vantage. The ocean becomes new again through the eyes of Artificial Intelligence, a piece of paper splices through a landscape- changing its story, and a collaboration with AI software produces images that recall alchemical notations.
