Hofstra University Museum of Art

The Hofstra University Museum of Art is the only American Alliance of Museums (AAM) accredited university fine art museum in the region. The Museum is open year-round and offers approximately six original exhibitions annually. The Hofstra University Museum of Art has two on-campus galleries: The Emily Lowe Gallery located behind Emily Lowe Hall on south campus, and the David Filderman Gallery located on the ninth floor of the Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library.

The Museum’s permanent collections have grown to include more than 5,000 objects spanning 35 centuries of human history, with works of art and cultural artifacts representing six continents. Highlights of the collections include works by Romare Bearden, Walker Evans, Paul Gauguin, Jasper Johns, Alfred Maurer, René Magritte, Henry Moore, Gordon Parks, Norman Rockwell, Andy Warhol and Edward Weston as well as cultural artifacts from Africa, Asia, and the Pre-Columbian era. The Museum offers a rich array of public programs for adults, families, and learners across the lifespan. Approximately 24,000 visitors connect with the Hofstra University Museum of Art each year.
