SUMMARY:Lesley Dill: Voice Opening
DESCRIPTION:Atrium Gallery announces an upcoming exhibition\, “Lesley Dill: Voice” Opening Friday\, November 8th.\n \nAtrium Gallery will open the fall season in a new gallery space (The Dorchester\, 665 S. Skinker Blvd. St. Louis\, MO 63105) with a solo exhibition for internationally known artist\, Lesley Dill. \n“Lesley Dill: Voice” will present two and three dimensional works of varying scale that give depth to the understanding of her very explicit practice of involving imagery with words. She literally gives “voice” to every piece by incorporating the written word into the structure of the image. Dill’s works are often delicate and intricate using translucent papers\, thread\, fabric\, balsa wood\, paint and even gold leaf. Also many of her works involve clothing and she says “Clothing houses the house that houses the soul.” Known for her intellectual and literary references\, she responds to very personal experiences from her New England Puritan heritage and early writers\, i.e. Johnathan Edwards\, Nathaniel Hawthorne\, Anne Hutchinson and Walt Whitman. The work is also strongly informed by Emily Dickinson and other authors including Faulkner and Kafka. Deeply personal experiences and reflections are incorporated in these pieces which are meant to give reference to universal concepts. \nA scholar from childhood\, she majored in English as an undergraduate\, and went on to receive an MA from Smith College and an MFA from Maryland Institute of Art. Her work is actively exhibited nationally and internationally and she is represented in many major museum collections including The Metropolitan Museum and The Museum of Modern Art\, NY\, The National Gallery of Art\, Library of Congress\, and National Gallery of Women in the Arts\, Washington DC.   \nAtrium is very proud to present Lesley Dill’s first solo exhibition in St. Louis. \nThe exhibition opens Friday November 8th at Atrium’s new location\, 665 S. Skinker Blvd. with a Reception for the Artist 6-8 pm and will be on view through January 18th\, 2020. \nFor more information and images\, please contact the Gallery.
