SUMMARY:Pamela Berkeley Reflections 2025: Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Saturday March 1\, 3-6pm\nPamela Berkeley makes paintings from close and direct observation. She combines still life objects (some arranged as magical altars)\, landscape\, portraiture of people and animals. Her main preoccupation in painting is the tension between the still objects close to the picture plane and the distant imagery that is farthest away. Foreground and what is behind are of equal importance\, painted at the same time\, side by side\, locked into each other. There is no background. In fact\, in a work of lace curtains\, some holes are made of paint\, not the threads.Within her tightly drawn work\, her underlying love of abstract painting shows in her manipulation of design\, color\, paint and brushwork.

SUMMARY:Anne Diggory: Near and Far
DESCRIPTION:Closing Reception: \nThe theme of near and far refers to several aspects of the exhibition. The locations that inspired Diggory’s work are close by in the Adirondacks of New York and across the ocean in southern France where she travelled for three weeks in spring 2022. The compositions that combine the close by with the far away are a celebration of the complexity of relationships seen and painted. Those spaces include deep passages in which the foregrounds either dissolve or serve as anchors. Additionally\, the act of painting itself creates a tension between the near-at-hand surface and the evocation of a magical world of space\, light and energy.

SUMMARY:Kim Van Do: Outside In
DESCRIPTION:October 29 – November 23\, 2024 \nBlue Mountain Gallery is\, once again\, pleased to present the work of observational painter \nKim Van Do.  Mr. Do’s works are wholly realized while he stands in the landscape\, reacting in wild wonder to the subtle shifts in weather\, light\, time\, and color.  The results are often quite naturalistic\, or filled with information gathered in hundreds of quick analytic gazes.  Some may say the word “detailed”\, but Mr. Do prefers the term “small structures”.  The difference is seeing an ever expanding relationship to the whole\, rather than simply repetitive small marks.

SUMMARY:Alexander Purves: Watercolors and Drawings October 1-26\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:A show of watercolors and drawings by Alexander Purves will be held at the Blue Mountain Gallery in New York City from October 1 through October 26\, 2024.  All were made during the last three years in northwestern Connecticut\, where Purves maintains a studio.  The  restrictions of the recent years have encouraged us to look closely at the natural world that immediately surrounds us\, discovering  beauty in tangled vines and random branches.   This untidy landscape has been the consistent focus of Purves’s work for many years.  The subjects of the current pictures are the trees seen from his studio and the tangles of vines and  brambles that invade the landscape immediately outsid

SUMMARY:Geraldo Perez: Short Stories
DESCRIPTION:Blue Mountain Gallery is excited to present Short Stories\, a solo exhibition featuring the work of artist\, Geraldo Perez. Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen\, Perez brings a unique\, cross-cultural perspective to his work\, exploring life’s complexities through vivid and emotive visual narratives. Short Stories examines fragments of the everyday ~ moments of love\, struggle\, joy\, and resilience\, that define our universal experiences each felt on a personal plane. The paintings in this collection offer a glimpse into uniquely personal stories blending figurative elements with abstract gestures that evoke raw emotional depth. The artist skillfully uses color\, form\, and texture to draw viewers into these intimate moments.

SUMMARY:Theresa Bartol: Bach to Nature
DESCRIPTION:The Blue Mountain Gallery\, 547 W. 27th Street\, #201\, Chelsea NYC\, is pleased to announce an exhibition of landscape paintings by Theresa Bartol.  The paintings take us on her journey in which she withdraws from all associations of the material world created by man and surrenders herself to Nature and its messages. Each painting presents a musical composition of light and colors. \n\nEarly influences of Music and Nature. \nIn the 1970’s Theresa was given an old Horizon Magazine which contained a page of J.S. Bach’s musical composition to the Prelude in B Minor. Upon seeing this page\, she instinctively began to paint floral compositions inspired by the printed musical notes. As a teenager she played the violin and saw how the series of notes suggested movement graphically and in musical harmony. From then on\, she has woven ideas about music into her work.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception for Janet Sawyer's "Lost Trees"
DESCRIPTION:The compelling theme of this exhibition is human suffering and resilience; it reflects the ongoing crisis of violence\, fear\, and ultimately\, courage as part of the human condition. There is no specific political agenda reflected in this body of work; the universal themes resonate in our troubled times\, as they have throughout history. Interwoven in this theme is the promise of hope\, born of empathy through common experience.
