SUMMARY:BRUCE CAHN
DESCRIPTION:Castello 925 presents the watercolors\, gouaches and works on paper of the late New York artist Bruce Cahn. Cahn’s work is known not only for his accomplished techniques\, but also for its powerful symbolic imagery. These artworks range from realistic depictions of the human form in all of the varieties of ages\, shapes and colors to elegant abstract mandalas that chart a private\, spiritual journey.   \nA prolific yet reclusive artist\, Cahn’s art practice was both obsessive and spiritual\, working tirelessly in the belief that visual perfection would prepare him for his next life. This exhibition of works on paper by Bruce Cahn is aligned with the theme of the 60th Venice Biennale\, Foreigners Everywhere\, in that Cahn’s work shifts in perspective from the human form to the inner spirit much as a foreigner journeys to the lands’ edge. As a foreigner in his own body\, Bruce Cahn spiritually transcended at the end of his life through his art practice.  \nAbout Bruce Cahn: \nBorn in the Bronx\, Bruce Cahn led an eccentric\, solitary life driven by an all-consuming desire to absorb himself into an ongoing creative process. The son of a prominent New York City caterer\, Cahn spent his childhood comfortable but socially disinterested\, preferring to spend time sculpting and drawing. After his graduation from Horace Mann High School\, Cahn studied with sculptor Harvey Fite at Bard College and then with José Mariano de Creeft at the Rhode Island School of Design. A life-time member of the Arts Student League in New York City\, Bruce Cahn worked obsessively in his small apartment/studio and later\, in his Woodstock\, New York cottage. Apart from a solo exhibit at the Horace Mann Fisher Gallery\, Bruce Cahn avoided showing his artworks so as not to be distracted from his intensive art practice. This special solo exhibition at Castello 925 is the first time these works on paper by Bruce Cahn have ever been exhibited.

SUMMARY:MARTIN WEINSTEIN · Dentro | Fuori
DESCRIPTION:Castello 925 presents “Martin Weinstein · Dentro | Fuori” in the 780 project space located at Fondamenta San Giuseppe\, 780 in Venice Italy. This solo exhibition of the artist’s most recent dimensional paintings on multiple acrylic sheets is of views of Venice – both exterior\, with its magnificent canals and architecture juxtaposed with interior studies of elegant Italian domesticity. Weinstein’s unique practice of painting on flat transparent layers that are re-assembled inside of a clear enclosure\, creates a deep and infinitely shifting space. In Dentro | Fuori\, Martin continues to play with perception as he reshuffles his painted panels\, inventing dimensional and temporal ambiguities. \nMartin Weinstein · Dentro | Fuori opens with an artist’s reception on Saturday\, September 14\, 2024 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm and remains on view through November 24\, 2024. \nABOUT MARTIN WEINSTEIN: \nIn his extensive career\, Martin Weinstein has had over 75 solo and curated group exhibitions at galleries and museums both nationally and abroad.  including the MacNider Art Museum\, Hillstrom Museum of Art\, Museum of the Southwest\, Wichita Art Museum\, Swarthmore College\, and most recently at The Parthenon Museum\, Nashville\, TN. The artist lives and works in Croton-on-Hudson\, NY. Martin Weinstein’s next solo exhibition will be in February\, 2025\, at Lichtundfire Gallery\, New York City\, NY. SUMMARY:Millicent Young | Il Viaggio
DESCRIPTION:Millicent Young‘s sculptures convey the fragmentation that arises from our contemporary condition. The works respond to specific events of breakdown: the collapsing biosphere\, war\, displacement\, and the loss of language\, place\, and relationship. Young meets these events as matters of the soul – where collective history and personal story become conjoined. In her use of humble materials\, Millicent Young castes lyrical abstractions as timeless artifacts. With wood\, horsehair and repurposed metal\, Young conveys the story of the human journey from the known to the unknown and her work reveals an ethos of care forming the possibility of healing. \nThis special solo installation in the Castello 925 Project space will close with a finissage reception on Sunday\, September 8\, 18:00 – 20:00.

SUMMARY:FRED DUIGNAN | Transcending Chaos
DESCRIPTION:Cross Contemporary Art Projects presents the paintings of the late New York artist Fred Duignan\, curated by Sara Lynn Henry at Castello 925 in Venice\, Italy. Duignan’s work is known not only for its variety of textures\, washes and techniques\, but also for its powerful abstract imagery. The paintings in this exhibit represent the last few years of work after receiving his diagnosis.  According to the curator\, Sara Lynn Henry\, ” (The artist)… started as a player in the 1980s East Village\, NYC\, when art burst forth as direct\, unruly\, naïve seeming\, getting at raw personal matters of process and reality\, accessing the unconscious as well as conscious intensities. For his process\, Duignan took a collaborative role with paint itself\, allowing it to flow\, skein\, drip\, puddle\, considering it to be an “animal\, fiery with purpose…ignoring all rules\, unafraid\,” consequently imbuing his works with an insistent energy.” \nAbout Frederick Duignan: \nBorn June 1\, 1952 in Jersey City\, NJ\, Frederick Duignan attended St. Mary’s in Rutherford\, NJ\, then studied at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer\, Indiana; the duCret Center of Art\, Plainfield\, NJ; and obtained a BA in Fine Art and graduate certificate from University of California\, Santa Cruz.  Over the years he worked as a Curator of Contemporary Art at the Paterson Museum\, an art critic\, and always as a master artist/poet.

SUMMARY:FOREST LIVING | Abitare la Propria Foresta
DESCRIPTION:FOREST LIVING | ABITARE LA PROPRIA FORESTALaboratorio di Arteterapia per adultiArt Therapy for Adults LaboratoryThe laboratory takes inspiration from the collective exhibition currently exhibited at the art space Castello 925 in its two locations:Castle 925 and Castle 780 “I Foresti (Foreigners in Venetian dialect) and “Kaethe Kauffman: La Foresta” or “Kaethe Kauffman: The Foreigner”The exhibited works play with words and meanings of FORESTS and FOREIGNERS\, and stimulate a network of associations and metaphors that creatively open our minds to new thoughts. This also concerns the theme of the Art Biennial 2024: FOREIGNERS EVERYWHERE.The laboratory: LIVING IN YOUR OWN FOREST\, proposes a metaphorical game where you can interpret the ‘forest’ as a group of belonging and an opportunity to reflect and explore through artistic materials our own way of feeling about belonging in a group\, the emotions that the contact with the foreigner arouses in us and the feeling of “foreigness” or being excluded or different in our own way.The laboratory will take place in 3 stages:1. Guided tour of the Galleries Castello 925 and Castello 780 exhibitions2. Return to Gallery Castello 925 to make a personal artwork with materials offered by the Art Therapist: Dr. Rebecca Macià3. SUMMARY:I Foresti | Anne Leith\, Robin McClintock\, Martin Weinstein & Millicent Young
DESCRIPTION:As there are no forests in Venice\, the Venetian dialect phrase for “foreigner” is “foresti” or “someone from the forest”. I Foresti\, a group exhibition at Castello 925\, plays on that vernacular expression as these American artists are not only foreigners to Venice but are inspired by the materials and rich textures of the forest. I Foresti explores the meanings of the Venetian phrase “foresti” as surveyors of the sensory experience of nature (Weinstein and Leith)\, or purveyors of the rhythms of its hidden life forms (McClintock) or a cartographer of the foreigner’s journey (Young). Together\, these artists convey the experience of the forest and the foreigner as inspiration\, destination and refuge to the city of Venice in tandem with the theme of the 60th Biennale “Strangers Everywhere“. Website: https://bit.ly/foresti24 \nAbout the Artists:\nAnne Leith: Anne Leith is a painter of places\, both observed and oneiric. The\nlandscape is integral to her practice and the personal immersion into a greater whole is\nher over-arching aesthetic. \nRobin McClintock: Robin McClintock\, a native New Yorker\, who moved to rural West\nVirginia half-way through her career\, conjures from that dichotomy intricate\, elegant yet\nheavily wrought works on paper that weave the chaos of spatial memory\, vestigial\nindustrial architecture\, and nature into an uncanny personal order. \nMartin Weinstein: Martin Weinstein builds layers of perception from painted acrylic\nlayers with each combining to describe a whole. These paintings\, rooted in the\nlandscape tradition\, represent perpetually shifting perceptions that evolve into personal\nrecords of space\, being and memory. \nMillicent Young: In her use of humble materials\, Millicent Young castes lyrical\nabstractions as timeless artifacts. With wood\, horsehair and repurposed metal\, Young\nconveys the story of the human journey from the known to the unknown. \nI Foresti opens with a reception for the artists Friday\, April 19\, 5 -8pm at Castello 925\, Fondamenta San Giuseppe\, Sestiere Castello 925 and 780\, 30122 Venice\, Italy and runs through Sunday\, June 23\, 2024.

SUMMARY:ROB MANGO | Eterno Ritorno
DESCRIPTION:Robert Mango paints in luminous\, celebratory colors with hand-crafted metallic accents\, enabling his muses to glow and shine. He references the history of art in his kaleidoscopic melding of genres – abstraction\, realism\, symbolism\, and surrealism. Installed together\, these freewheeling paintings describe a new era of the Baroque with deconstructed mathematics combined with visibly shifting forms that give way to a colorful ecstasy of vibrant pigments and powerful poetics. \nGiven the sensual\, carnivalesque\, and Baroque tradition that weaves throughout Rob Mango’s artwork\, it is appropriate that the artist’s first exhibition outside the United States is held in Venice\, Italy in affiliation with the Venice Biennale.  Robert Mango | Eterno Ritorno opens 15 September with a reception for the artist on Sat. Sept 16\, 6:30 – 8:30pm at Castello 925\, Venice\, Italy through November 27\, 2023.

SUMMARY:Kaethe Kauffman: Workshop at Castello 925
DESCRIPTION:Since the ’90s\, Kaethe Kauffman has worked with the female body studying and documenting its movement and creating out of this performative process\, a series of abstracted images. These artworks\, inspired by the practice of yoga\, investigate the theme of freedom by challenging the objectification by society of women’s bodies. Using string dipped in paint\, the artist ties the filament around a hand\, knee\, elbow\, or torso\, and when the body part is flexed\, the movement is recorded as an off-printing of paint on skin. In Kauffman’s art\, the body writes itself upon its own skin in a ritual of self-revelation. This act of marking and exposure is documented by Kauffman’s photographic images\, which are digitally repeated and colored\, drawn upon by hand in a variety of media and the vibrant results are printed on silk much like the large banners found in Buddhist temples. In an expansion of the body’s own “speech” through movement\, Kaethe Kauffman’s images combine into larger fields of replication and mirroring\, until the individual body is subsumed into a larger vision. \nKaethe Kauffman’s solo exhibition Yoga: Interiore Eterno at Castello 925\, Venice Italy will feature a workshop about abstraction and movement involving audience members.\nDuring this workshop the audience will have the opportunity to become a both a model for the artist and a participant in her creative process.

SUMMARY:A Conversation with Bobbie Moline-Kramer
DESCRIPTION:Gallery Castello925 opens registration for the next workshop: an opportunity to discover new ways of knowing\, seeing\, and feeling through contact with art.\nThe workshop will open with a tour of Bobbie Moline-Kramer’s Power of One exhibition hosted at Castello925’s main gallery located at Fondamenta S. Giuseppe\, Castello 925.\nThe artist will then discuss her process and vision behind these paintings based on the personal astrological charts of important people who have made a difference in the world.\nLastly\, the audience will have the opportunity to participate in a collective discussion on feelings\, thoughts\, and emotions arising from encounters with the works on display. Gallery Founder Dr. Luca Caldironi will mediate the dialogue.\nCalifornia-based artist Bobbie Moline-Kramer’s exhibition The Power of One is an installation that spans both time and space using the study of constellations as a touchstone.
