SUMMARY:I Foresti | Anne Leith\, Robin McClintock\, Martin Weinstein & Millicent Young
DESCRIPTION:As there are no forests in Venice\, the Venetian dialect phrase for “foreigner” is “foresti” or “someone from the forest”. I Foresti\, a group exhibition at Castello 925\, plays on that vernacular expression as these American artists are not only foreigners to Venice but are inspired by the materials and rich textures of the forest. I Foresti explores the meanings of the Venetian phrase “foresti” as surveyors of the sensory experience of nature (Weinstein and Leith)\, or purveyors of the rhythms of its hidden life forms (McClintock) or a cartographer of the foreigner’s journey (Young). Together\, these artists convey the experience of the forest and the foreigner as inspiration\, destination and refuge to the city of Venice in tandem with the theme of the 60th Biennale “Strangers Everywhere“. Website: https://bit.ly/foresti24 \nAbout the Artists:\nAnne Leith: Anne Leith is a painter of places\, both observed and oneiric. The\nlandscape is integral to her practice and the personal immersion into a greater whole is\nher over-arching aesthetic. \nRobin McClintock: Robin McClintock\, a native New Yorker\, who moved to rural West\nVirginia half-way through her career\, conjures from that dichotomy intricate\, elegant yet\nheavily wrought works on paper that weave the chaos of spatial memory\, vestigial\nindustrial architecture\, and nature into an uncanny personal order. \nMartin Weinstein: Martin Weinstein builds layers of perception from painted acrylic\nlayers with each combining to describe a whole. These paintings\, rooted in the\nlandscape tradition\, represent perpetually shifting perceptions that evolve into personal\nrecords of space\, being and memory. \nMillicent Young: In her use of humble materials\, Millicent Young castes lyrical\nabstractions as timeless artifacts. With wood\, horsehair and repurposed metal\, Young\nconveys the story of the human journey from the known to the unknown. \nI Foresti opens with a reception for the artists Friday\, April 19\, 5 -8pm at Castello 925\, Fondamenta San Giuseppe\, Sestiere Castello 925 and 780\, 30122 Venice\, Italy and runs through Sunday\, June 23\, 2024.

SUMMARY:ROB MANGO | Eterno Ritorno
DESCRIPTION:Robert Mango paints in luminous\, celebratory colors with hand-crafted metallic accents\, enabling his muses to glow and shine. He references the history of art in his kaleidoscopic melding of genres – abstraction\, realism\, symbolism\, and surrealism. Installed together\, these freewheeling paintings describe a new era of the Baroque with deconstructed mathematics combined with visibly shifting forms that give way to a colorful ecstasy of vibrant pigments and powerful poetics. \nGiven the sensual\, carnivalesque\, and Baroque tradition that weaves throughout Rob Mango’s artwork\, it is appropriate that the artist’s first exhibition outside the United States is held in Venice\, Italy in affiliation with the Venice Biennale.  Robert Mango | Eterno Ritorno opens 15 September with a reception for the artist on Sat. Sept 16\, 6:30 – 8:30pm at Castello 925\, Venice\, Italy through November 27\, 2023.

SUMMARY:Kaethe Kauffman: Workshop at Castello 925
DESCRIPTION:Since the ’90s\, Kaethe Kauffman has worked with the female body studying and documenting its movement and creating out of this performative process\, a series of abstracted images. These artworks\, inspired by the practice of yoga\, investigate the theme of freedom by challenging the objectification by society of women’s bodies. Using string dipped in paint\, the artist ties the filament around a hand\, knee\, elbow\, or torso\, and when the body part is flexed\, the movement is recorded as an off-printing of paint on skin. In Kauffman’s art\, the body writes itself upon its own skin in a ritual of self-revelation. This act of marking and exposure is documented by Kauffman’s photographic images\, which are digitally repeated and colored\, drawn upon by hand in a variety of media and the vibrant results are printed on silk much like the large banners found in Buddhist temples. In an expansion of the body’s own “speech” through movement\, Kaethe Kauffman’s images combine into larger fields of replication and mirroring\, until the individual body is subsumed into a larger vision. \nKaethe Kauffman’s solo exhibition Yoga: Interiore Eterno at Castello 925\, Venice Italy will feature a workshop about abstraction and movement involving audience members.\nDuring this workshop the audience will have the opportunity to become a both a model for the artist and a participant in her creative process.

SUMMARY:A Conversation with Bobbie Moline-Kramer
DESCRIPTION:Gallery Castello925 opens registration for the next workshop: an opportunity to discover new ways of knowing\, seeing\, and feeling through contact with art.\nThe workshop will open with a tour of Bobbie Moline-Kramer’s Power of One exhibition hosted at Castello925’s main gallery located at Fondamenta S. Giuseppe\, Castello 925.\nThe artist will then discuss her process and vision behind these paintings based on the personal astrological charts of important people who have made a difference in the world.\nLastly\, the audience will have the opportunity to participate in a collective discussion on feelings\, thoughts\, and emotions arising from encounters with the works on display. Gallery Founder Dr. Luca Caldironi will mediate the dialogue.\nCalifornia-based artist Bobbie Moline-Kramer’s exhibition The Power of One is an installation that spans both time and space using the study of constellations as a touchstone. The astrological profiles of various heroic individuals were selected because of their courage to make a difference in the world. Using 16th-century glazing and gilding techniques\, Moline-Kramer incises unique sky charts particular to each leader with the same precision that antique celestial maps were prepared and painted by Italian and Dutch Renaissance masters.\nFor info and bookings\, please indicate First Name\, Last Name\, and number of participants by writing to galleria@castello925.com or calling +39 391 451 8640.\nCastello925: https://www.castello925.com/about-us
