SUMMARY:Michael O’Neill\, On Yoga: The Architecture of Peace
DESCRIPTION:Etherton Gallery is pleased to present our new exhibition\, Michael O’Neill\, On Yoga: The Architecture of Peace\, opening with a reception 7:00-10:00 pm\, Saturday\, December 4\, 2021 at our new location\, 340 South Convent Avenue. The show runs through Feb. 5\, 2022. Michael O’Neill spent ten years photographing the masters and gurus of yoga\, meditating with monks in the Tibetan Plateau\, living with sadhus in their tents at the Kumbh Mela\, and marveling at the boys who practice the little known discipline of Mallakhamba at the wrestling grounds in Kochi\, India. His portraits reveal the essence of yoga\, what O’Neill calls\, “the architecture of peace… a series of postures that bring the practitioner closer to touching the infinite.” \nA documentary about O’Neill’s project\, On Yoga: The Architecture of Peace will be shown 2:00 pm\, Sunday\, December 5th at The Screening Room\, 127 East Congress Street.  To view the trailer visit:  https://vimeo.com/501728440. \nFor more information\, call or email Daphne Srinivasan at the gallery at:  info@ethertongallery.com  or (520) 624-7370. \nImage Credit: Rooted\, 2009 ©️ Michael O’Neill

SUMMARY:Go Figure: Jack Balas\, Titus Castanza\, Holly Roberts\, Robert Wilson\, Benjamin M Johnson
DESCRIPTION:Etherton Gallery is pleased to present Go Figure featuring painting and mixed media by Jack Balas\, Titus Castanza\, and Holly Roberts\, with sculpture by Robert Wilson\, and an installation of paintings by Benjamin M Johnson in the gallery pop-up. Balas\, Castanza and Roberts use the figure to narrate personal stories — which upon reflection are also our own — addressing universal themes that acknowledge the questioning\, wry\, often uncomfortable compartmentalized sum of ourselves. Robert Wilson believes that the creatures he fashions from found wood and metal determine the path of their creation. In contrast\, the foundation of Johnson’s paintings is an engagement with the past that permeates his visual poems about the human experience. Go Figure opens with a reception at  7-10pm\, Sat. March 21\, 2020. For more information call or email Daphne Srinivasan: (520) 624-7370 or info@ethertongallery.com.

SUMMARY:Land Re-Form: Michael P. Berman\, Frank Gohlke\, Mark Klett
DESCRIPTION:Land Re-Form brings together the work of photographers Frank Gohlke\, Mark Klett\, and Michael Berman for the first time. These photographers share an interest in investigating the fluid and changing dynamics in the relationship between human endeavor and the natural world through the landscape. As Gohlke says\, “Landscape is the biggest cultural artifact that any culture creates.”  Gohlke’s photographs of the aftermath of the Mount St. Helens earthquake (celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2020); Klett’s images of the Southwest from the series Revealing Territory\, and Berman’s gridded images of the Sierra San Luis from his new project Perdido\, narrate the story of the human presence and its impact on the land.  Photographs by Michael Mulno from his series Residential Variations will be on display in the gallery pop-up. Land Re-Form opens with a reception and book signing\, 7-10pm\, Saturday\, January 18\, 2020\, and runs through March 14\, 2020. For more information contact Daphne Srinivasan at Etherton Gallery (520) 624-7370 or info@ethertongallery.com.
