DESCRIPTION:This panel discussion examines the collective power of the arts to address complex issues in society\, its ability to chart a path for social change\, the role of the artist as activist and their impact on local communities and nationwide. The artists included in the panel are Molly Crabapple\, For Freedoms\, Miguel Luciano\, Michele Pred\, and Sophia Victor. Each take a stand and call out injustices through their art and activism on issues such as immigration\, gender\, reproductive rights\, mass incarceration\, voting rights\, racial bias\, and gun violence. Using James Baldwin’s essay\, The Creative Process as a talking point\, artists will explain how their art and activism help “make the world a more human dwelling place.” \nThis event is made possible with the support of the Hofstra Cultural Center. \nAdmission is free.
