4th Friday Art Shows and Opening Reception @ Art Works!

Enjoy April at Art Works. Throughout April, Art Works is open to the public, offering a variety of engaging exhibits. Join us for a fun-filled scavenger hunt with prizes, perfect for both the young and the young at heart. This activity culminates with a special reward for those who find the hidden treasures in our center.

We also offer two figure drawing sessions on the 1st and 3rd Sundays. And mark your calendars for Friday, April 25th, when we’ll host a reception to celebrate the opening of our new art exhibits.

Make a day of it by exploring the local eateries, including Continental, Stock, Pig and Brew, Iron Clad Pizza, Café Zata, and The Gold Lion.

4th Friday April 25 at Art Works

As the school year wraps up, students from Henrico Center for the Arts are completing their four years of artistic study. Art Works is honored to host their exhibits throughout April and May. Additionally, Zakari Yonkers’ exhibit will debut, offering a powerful exploration of LGBTQ culture and Black culture, while Olga Rokhmanyuk brings a unique Eastern perspective on amulets and love. Local artists will also showcase their talents in the juried All Media Show. As part of the RVA Thriving Artists Bridge Project, Julisa Carranza Torres showcases his work, exploring themes of Hispanic culture and the immigrant experience.

Henrico Center for the Arts

Senior students of the Henrico Center for the Arts program exhibit their artwork which represents four years of study. The exhibit features a myriad of art forms and immerging perspectives. This exhibit will be in the Jane Sandelin Gallery at Art Works.

The exhibit opens on April 25, 2025, and continues through – May 3, 2025.

Identity by Zakari Yonkers

Zakari Yonkers is a self-taught artist from Richmond. As a black and queer artist, Yonkers captures the complexities of both identities in today’s society. Their work features vibrant colors and distorted proportions, guiding the viewer’s eyes and reflecting personal and cultural experiences. Yonkers experiments with various textures and mediums, focusing on themes like hair and music to highlight and positively redefine black culture, challenging viewers to see these identities in a new light.

The exhibit will be in the Centre Gallery at Art Works through May 17, 2025.

Love Through Amulets by Olga Rokhmanyuk – ROArtUs

Amulets symbolize protection and love for those who are dear to us. Olga Rokhmanyuk pours her heart and soul into each painting, infusing them with the brightest emotions. She believes these spiritually charged artworks emit inner strength and positivity, bringing empowerment and joy to those who encounter them.

The exhibit will be in the Corner Gallery at Art Works through May 17, 2025.

April 2025 All Media Show

This exhibit is a focal point of all Art Works’ openings. It is a juried show with cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. The show is open to all artists and all mediums. There is no theme this month. Nikki Santiago will juror the exhibit. Santiago is a Williamsburg, VA-based artist and educator at the College of William and Mary, has exhibited in over 150 group and solo shows, is affiliated with First Street Gallery in NYC, and has received multiple fellowships and recognitions, including being named a finalist for the prestigious Bennett Prize celebrating women painters in the representational figure tradition.

Call for entries is March 15 – April 13, 2025, and may be submitted through the online form.

The exhibit will be in the Skylight Gallery at Art Works through May 15, 2025.
