El Sueño de Razón presents Alice Leora Briggs’ sgraffito drawings about drug violence in Juárez, Mexico from her recent book Abcedario: A Lexicon (2022), and Kitty Brophy’s performative word art pigment prints that deal with gender inequality. The exhibition opens with a reception on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 7-10 pm and runs through November 25.

Briggs is the recipient of a Guggenheim fellowship and a Fulbright award. Brophy, who is also a poet, grew up in the East Village art scene of the late 1970s – early 1980s, and her work was highlighted in the exhibition, Club 57: Film, Performance, and Art in the East Village (1978-1983) at the Museum of Modern Art, in 2017-18.  The gallery will also host a poetry reading for Kitty Brophy on October 7.
