Before We Begin, Again

May 22, 2021 @ 8:00 am - June 12, 2021 @ 5:00 pm

Free

School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents “Before We Begin, Again,” an exhibition of selected thesis projects by MFA Computer Arts 2021 graduates. The exhibition will be on view from Saturday, May 22, through Saturday, June 12, online at galleries.sva.edu.

“Before We Begin, Again” contemplates moments that fold into themselves. Artists in this exhibition reconsider histories and memories, while creating space for possible worlds that have yet to exist. Through these explorations these artists formulate narratives that are both personal and communal. Highlights include:

Linda Loh’s Agog, an abstract 3D “world” VR experience for Oculus Quest 2 in which visitors embark on an adventure to explore undulating terrains with strange forms, “non-forms” and spaces to actually get lost in.

Emilio Ramos’ Apocalypsis is a first-person point-of-view film realized almost entirely in the Unreal Engine, drawing heavily from the Bible’s Book of Revelation.

Xuezhu Yuki Wu’s little bell is a 2D narrative animated film that addresses the idea of self-acceptance. Through growth, we aim to be a gift to our younger selves and strive to make them proud of how far we’ve come.

Additional artists and MFA Computer Arts class of 2021 graduates included in this exhibition are Pat Badia and Kamrie McKayDaiqi CuiDiego GuanzonYunxi GuoAnne IsenseeI Ting KaoYashuai LiuJiani Lu and Gangling SunXiangtian PangHazel HyunSoo SeoXiangyu ShiJingxuan WangCynthia Tengyang WangVincent Xu WuZijing WuKai Chuan Yang and Qingruo Zhao.
