CLINTEL STEED juries Bowery Gallery’s national Juried Exhibition

Beginning August 3, the Bowery Gallery presents its annual national juried exhibition, now in
its 30th year. The show has been selected in previous years by such well-known figures on the
art scene as Janet Fish, Fairfield Porter, William Bailey, Joan Snyder, Jed Perl and Lance Esplund, among others.

This year’s juror, Clintel Steed, a nationally recognized painter, received his MFA from Indiana
University in 2001. Among the venues where he has shown his work are Steven Harvey Fine
Art Projects in New York, M + B in Los Angeles, and M. David and Co. in Brooklyn, New York.
He is the recipient of the John Koch Award from the National Academy of Arts and Letters. His
work has been discussed in Hyperallergic, artcritical.com, and the New York Sun. Mr. Steed has
taught at the New York Studio School, the Chautauqua Institution, Pratt Institute, and Western
Connecticut State University. He lives and works in New York City.

The exhibition chosen by Mr. Steed includes 52 works by artists from across the country, from
Texas to New York. Mediums were oil, acrylic, gouache, mixed media and pastel. Viewers of
the exhibition will find pictures by artists new to the New York scene, as well as established
artists. The show reflects the mix of tradition-conscious abstraction and figuration that has
characterized the Bowery Gallery over its more than fifty years in New York.
Bowery exhibitions have been noticed in the pages of the New York Times, Art in America,
Arts, The New Criterion, The New Republic, artcritical.com, and the Wall Street Journal, among
other publications.
