Brown Sugar:
Lee Lee La Cubana and Jency Sekaran

Rooted in the Lived Experiences of Women of Color

August 5th – August 23rd, 2025

Opening Reception: August 7th, 6 – 8 pm

Atlantic Gallery is pleased to announce Brown Sugar, an exhibition of works by Lee Lee La Cubana and Jency Sekaran, on view from August 5th through August 23rd, 2025. An opening reception will be held for the artists on Thursday, August 7th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Brown Sugar explores the individual and collective experiences of women of color through intimacy, identity, and power. The exhibition reflects on how culture, memory and personal history has shaped the everyday realities of navigating race, gender and self-expression. Channeling from lived experiences, Lee Lee La Cubana and Jency Sekaran offer a visual language of resilience, softness, pleasure, and resistance.

Lee Lee La Cubana, a multidisciplinary artist and cultural curator, examines the intersections of identity, power, and self-expression through a pop art lens. Jency Sekaran, a mixed media artist and epidemiologist explores the complexities of identity to foster a dialogue about acceptance and empowerment. Together, they form a conversation that honors the layered complexities of brown womanhood.
