Please join the Phillips Museum of Art in welcoming Sonya Clark for our first event of the Spring season! Sonya Clark is an international artist, Professor of Art and the History of Art at Amherst College, F&M’s Department of Art & Art History Conrad Nelson Speaker, and the college’s Richard C. von Hess Foundation Collaborative Residency in Art History recipient. Her mixed media works use everyday objects to address tangled histories, cultural heritage, and identity. Clark’s common hour talk will connect to her new site-specific installation Sonya Clark: Finding Freedom which highlights Lancaster as a location along the Underground Railroad and the use of the night sky, specifically the Big Dipper constellation, to orient those seeking freedom. After common hour, please join us in the Phillips Museum of Art’s Dana Gallery for the opening reception of Sonya Clark: Finding Freedom and to see Clark’s work in person! The common hour and opening reception are free and open to all!
