During the 1930s, John Steuart Curry gained national fame for his images of rural Kansas: isolated farms, religious gatherings, and approaching storms. However, another region preoccupied Curry during his career–the American West. From the 1920s to the early 1940s, Curry imaged the Wild West in his illustrations for books and magazines and in his murals in government buildings.
