Finding Space

May 20, 2021 @ 8:00 am - June 7, 2021 @ 5:00 pm

Free

School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents “Finding Space,” a juried exhibition of multidisciplinary works by SVA students. Organized by SVA Galleries, the exhibition will be on view online from Thursday, May 20, through Monday, June 7, at galleries.sva.edu.

“Finding Space” reexamines the role of space and proximity during aberrant times. Over the past year, people reconfigured their environments as a global pandemic forced them out of public spaces, creating a mass retreat to their dwellings. For many, the areas we inhabit, the places in which we create, our personal space and workspace, now live under one roof. The artists in “Finding Space” illustrate scenes of these formerly familiar places—once specifically designated for work, family, relaxation and intimacy—during a time when these zones have taken on new purposes.

Artists featured in this exhibition are Christian Chang (BFA Illustration), Claudia Hernandez (MFA Photography, Video and Related Media), Ji Min Hwang (MFA Fine Arts), Jiachen Liu (BFA Illustration), Ashley McLean (BFA Photography and Video), Mona Monahan (BFA Design), Sefa Ozdogan (BFA Fine Arts), Dannika Pamonag (BFA Photography and Video), Grace Qian (BFA Fine Arts), Kay Thebez (BFA Photography and Video) and Xinhui Wang (BFA Illustration).
