Kevin Palme “For the Time Being”

September 8, 2022 - October 1, 2022

Kevin Palme paints ephemeral scenes to convey the transitory nature of life. In his view, from everyday occurrences to history defining events, change and time are inevitable. He paints towers, pyramids, and walls composed of original paper and ice cubes to assert the fleeting character of time on canvas.

For the Time Being, the exhibition’s title, imparts impermanence as something to be enjoyed, not feared. In his exhibition essay, Palme expresses, “These structures are fragile, designed to fail, either by melting or being dissembled and discarded. Standing alone against indeterminate spaces, there is something dramatic and historical about these buildings. These vignettes serve as a memorial to things destined not to last.” Yet Palme recognizes transience can be made palpable through painting. “A painted image is the tangible result of working with a changing and flexible medium until the arrival of an end. It is a path that allows a memory to be made into something more concrete than an idea.”

Kevin Palme maintains his studio in Asheville, North Carolina. The artist has participated in exhibitions across the country and is featured in private collections globally. Palme earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wake Forest University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Savannah College of Art and Design. This will be Kevin Palme’s first solo exhibition at Gallery Henoch.
