“Living in America” Artist Conversation: Act IV, Care
December 1, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeCaring for myself is not self-indulgence. It is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare. — Audre Lorde
Using our voices and our votes can create change, but the ongoing fight against injustice exponentially drains the lives and resources of those in marginalized communities. Artists are paving the way toward healing by using the arts and ordinary daily activities—cooking, gardening, needlework—as mediums to promote acts of self-care. Join this conversation between artist Vanessa German and curator Natasha Becker of Assembly Room about how artists engage various ways of caring for our individual and collective selves. Vanessa German is Pittsburgh-based visual and performance artist, poet, and activist whose practices explore the power of art, protection, and love as transformative forces in communities and neighborhoods.
This is the fourth and final in a series of four conversations held in conjunction with Living in America.
This Zoom webinar is free and open to the public. Live captioning available. The event will be recorded and made available online. Feel free to send questions in advance to contact@ipcny.org.
