The exhibition of oil paintings titled “Emerging” follows a series of solo exhibitions that focus on the natural world.

The title reflects a period of personal loss and change. .

While the title reflects personal change it also describes the way my art work evolves. I start with an impression of the scene before me but move to an expression of what I am seeing as the inner eye grasps my intent. It is an immersive process. A particular element of the work becomes dominant often informed by the changing weather or  the light.

As most of the paintings date from 2020 to 2022 I have been rooted to two locations, New York City and the Catskills, where I currently reside. Part of this exhibit was painted from my studio window. I also worked from photographs I took and in outdoor locations nearly.

Margaret Leveson’s formal background in Art started at the University of Toronto, Canada where she received a B.A. in Fine Arts. From 1963-65 Leveson worked as a Curator at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Moving to New York City in 1967 where she studied at the Art Students League and the New York Studio School receiving an MFA In 1977  from Brooklyn College. Leveson has been exhibiting in both solo and group exhibitions since 1979. In 1980 she joined the Blue Mountain Gallery in Manhattan, NYC where she participated in solo and group shows. In 1977 Leveson and her husband purchased the property of the painter J. Francis Murphy in Arkville, New York. Leveson exhibited widely in Delaware County both in solo and group shows, including Studio Tours sponsored by AMR. As a member of Longyear Gallery in Margaretville New York,  she has exhibited since 2007 and will have a solo exhibit in August 2022.
