Reclaimed – Online
May 14, 2020 @ 8:00 am - May 28, 2020 @ 5:00 pm
School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents “Reclaimed,” a juried exhibition of multidisciplinary works by SVA students. Organized by SVA Galleries, the exhibition will be on view online from Thursday, May 14, through Thursday, May 28, at galleries.sva.edu.
“Reclaimed” addresses ownership of the human figure in an age of exploitation. Critiquing social institutions by protest through art, each artist in this exhibition explores different approaches to harnessing control and freedom of the figure through lens-based media. From intimate portraits soaked in natural light to the stark juxtaposition of vacation and urban environment, the works in “Reclaimed” tell many stories. The authors of these stories invite viewers to question their experience of finding identity through physical expression.
Artists featured in this exhibition are Stephanie Shay Anderson (BFA Photography and Video), Tyler Hooks (MPS Fashion Photography), Heather Olker (MFA Photography, Video and Related Media), Esteban Kuriel (MFA Photography, Video and Related Media), Ulaan (Yang Yu) (BFA Photography and Video) and Annie Chen Ziyao (MFA Photography, Video and Related Media).
Juried exhibitions are a way for SVA students to recognize the achievements of their most distinguished classmates. Artists are selected from a large pool of applicants to the annual SVA Galleries call for entries, whose submissions undergo a rigorous examination of presented materials, including documentation of work and artist statements.
