Rendering New Realities

April 20, 2021 @ 8:00 am - May 17, 2021 @ 5:00 pm

Free

School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents “Rendering New Realities,” an exhibition of 3D and visual-effects (VFX) thesis projects by BFA Computer Art, Computer Animation, and Visual Effects fourth-year students. Curated by faculty member Alex Barsky, the exhibition will be on view online from Tuesday, April 20, through Monday, May 17, at galleries.sva.edu.

The world continues to face the challenge of creating, collaborating and learning remotely while quarantining and being confined to familiar places. There is a newfound hyper-awareness of our surroundings and many of us have become adjusted to a particular corner of space. This contrasts with computer art students’ ability to create vast, imagined realities and environments extending as far as their imaginations allow. By pioneering these landscapes, students give audiences new spaces to explore. “Rendering New Realities” highlights 3D environment design and altered realities using VFX, from lush wonderlands and cyberpunk dystopias to the mundane school hallways or kitchen table gatherings that we’ve been missing.
