School of Visual Arts presents “Revolving Sands,” a juried exhibition of multidisciplinary works by SVA students. Organized by SVA Galleries, the exhibition will be on view online from Friday, May 29, through Friday, June 12, at galleries.sva.edu.
“Revolving Sands” contemplates life as a cyclical yet finite experience. Recognizing the transitory nature of human existence, the 13 artists in this exhibition draw upon personal and cultural histories as an impetus for their creative processes. Analogous to an hourglass, the small moments and gestures accumulated in between points of beginning and end give form to the passage of time. These visual conversations reframe stories and gestures within everyday life as social commentary, reflecting the interconnectedness of individuals, their communities and shared experiences. The presented artworks encompass painting, photography, sculpture, video, book design and documentation of a participatory installation.
Artists featured in this exhibition are Jonathan Glam (BFA Photography and Video), Titus McBeath (BFA Fine Arts), Mona Monahan (BFA Design), Annie Morrissey (BFA Fine Arts), Laura Peretti (MFA Illustration as Visual Essay), Tian Qin (BFA Design), Jake Thompson (BFA Photography and Video), Pumipat Usapratumban (BFA Photography and Video), Cyle Warner (BFA Photography and Video), Wang Enze (BFA Photography and Video) and Annie Xiang (MFA Computer Arts).
Juried exhibitions are a way for SVA students to recognize the achievements of their most distinguished classmates. Artists are selected from a large pool of applicants to the annual SVA Galleries call for entries, whose submissions undergo a rigorous examination of presented materials, including documentation of work and artist statements.
