Simon Carr at Bowery Gallery
January 2, 2020 @ 11:00 am - January 25, 2020 @ 6:00 pm
Bowery Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by painter Simon Carr, entitled “Inside the World: Scenes from City and Country”. The exhibition runs from Jan. 2-25, 2020, with a gala opening Jan 4 from 3-6pm. Carr will discuss his work with his colleague and fellow gallery member, Thaddeus Radell, on Jan. 18 at 4pm. It promises to be an exciting conversation!
Carr’s themes of urban and country life, street scenes and landscapes, have become increasingly focused on the interactions of people in environments and the way these interactions create something more than the sum of their parts. The location or subject of the works are secondary to this sense of community or Being that the artist observes and tries to render. For him the excitement is this connection to a greater goal.
The paintings are large scale, in acrylic with very heavy textures, using sand and paint to build dense surfaces. In this show, for the first time, Carr will also be exhibiting watercolors done in New York and London.
The artist has exhibited widely in New York, and has work in private and corporate collections. His work has been represented by Bowery Gallery since 2015. More information is available at his website, simoncarrstudio.com.
A catalog is available with an essay by art historian Martica Sawin, as well as an interview by her with the artist.
The Bowery Gallery is located at 530 West 25 St. in New York City.
Hours are 11-6 Tuesday-Saturday. More information on the gallery is available at www.bowerygallery.org.
