Bowery Gallery is pleased to present Kind of Blue, an exhibition of Stephanie L. Franks’ paintings, collages and drawings. This will be Franks’ fifth solo exhibition at Bowery Gallery.
In Kind of Blue, Franks invites viewers into a world where color becomes both a language and a form of release. While not limited to a single color, Franks’ large blue canvases anchor the show. Around them, collages, drawings, and paintings unfold like visual improvisations: structured yet alive, measured yet full of surprise. Her black-and-white drawings, meanwhile, distill structure while exploring the poetry of space. Also included are her transcriptions—reimaginings of works by great artists from the past.
“It all comes together,” Franks says, “like many branches of one tree, coalescing at the center.”
Bowery Gallery will host an artist talk by Stephanie Franks, followed by poetry reading, on Saturday, November 15th at 4:30pm.
Stephanie Franks is a visual artist who has shown her work at institutions including the National Academy of Design in New York City, the Royal Academy in London, the Higashi Hiroshima Museum in Japan, Berry Campbell Gallery (NYC), Paul Thiebaud Gallery (San Francisco), Jason McCoy Gallery, among others.
