Virtual Tour of “Birds of the Northeast: Gulls to Great Auks”

April 8, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Just in time for spring, join museum director and curator of the exhibition Carey Mack Weber and curator of education & academic engagement Michelle DiMarzo ’07 for a special virtual tour of this stunning exhibition, featuring avian artwork and natural history specimens from the early 19th century through the present day.

Highlights of the exhibition, which Weber co-curated with three members of Fairfield’s Biology department, include Marsden Hartley’s oil painting Give Us This Day and Paul Villinski’s whimsical Long Playing Birds formed from vinyl LP records, as well as a skeleton of the extinct Great Auk, and Elizabeth Turk’s 3D-printed soundwaves of the calls of the bald eagle and now-extinct Carolina parakeet.

An interdisciplinary effort like no other in the museum’s 10-year history, the exhibition demonstrates the ways in which art and science can join forces to raise awareness not only of the importance of saving bird habitats, but the preservation of our broader natural environment.

After registering on Eventbrite, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a Zoom registration link. Please click on the link and sign up to receive the meeting information and Zoom link in order to join the tour.
