Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts

Contemporary art exhibitions, performances, and educational programming.

The Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts is an activity of the Happy Valley Foundation, created by Annie Besant, co-author of the seminal book on non-representational art, Thought Forms. This work influenced 20th century artists including Wassily Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian, Paul Klee, and others who pioneered abstract art. Inspired by Annie Besant, Beatrice Wood left her home, studio, art collection and library to the Happy Valley Foundation. Due to Beatrice Wood’s relationships with artists across the 20th century, and involvement with the Dada Movement, California Design, and the American Studio Craft Movement, the Center’s activities are part of a lineage and continuum, linking art historical movements and influential artists and the contemporary art world.
