Land and Sovereignty: The Foundation for Public Art and Studio Practice

December 1, 2021 @ 5:15 pm - 6:15 pm

Internationally recognized artist and KU alum Hock E Aye Vi Edgar Heap of Birds speaks about issues of place and power in his art. Five text-based panels from his Native Hosts series are installed in front of the Spencer Museum of Art and were selected as this year’s KU Common Work of Art. Native Hosts is just one example of Heap of Birds’s thought-provoking public interventions that acknowledge the historical displacement of Native Americans from their homelands and the contemporary presence of Native Americans across the Americas and the world.
