The Tarble Arts Center (TAC) is a major arts resource for the people of east-central Illinois and Eastern Illinois University that focuses primarily on the visual arts. TAC presents an annual program of changing exhibitions that feature regional, national, and international artists. The Tarble Arts Center also offers an array of public programs, in conjunction with other educational and outreach activities. TAC houses the university’s permanent collection of art, which features holdings of American Regionalism, Folk Art, Modern, and Contemporary painting, photography, and sculpture.
Originally opened in 1982 as a division of the College of Arts & Humanities, the Tarble Arts Center was made possible by a generous gift from the late Newton E. Tarble with additional funding donated by EIU alumni, annuitants, and other patrons of the arts. TAC received accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums in 2000.
